Please Help Me Get Over The Reef Hump...

I would also second 3-4 Chromis. I have 3 in my 60g and they are really nice fish. Another suggestion and one fish that I am going to get later for my 60 is a coral beauty dwarf angle. A really nice 4"-5" fish that move fluidly through live rock formations. Now they are not 100% reef safe...

Acclimating soft corals to my tank

I second the above method. I have used this meathod for a while and have nover lost a coral or fish during aclimation. I also leave the lights off during aclimation for both fish and corals.

    Overflow boxes and head calcs

I am finalizing the plans for my sump and I have a couple of questions about overflow boxes and my head calcs. I am planning on using a CPR CS50 overflow box. This is rated at 300gph. Is this the max flow of does it mean that is siphons at a constant 300gph? I plan on using 2 mag 5’s for my...

    New tank setup advice

I would have to agree that $650 for a 36" light fixture seems like a lot. I am assuming that it is a MH/PC light combo. The way I see it, Metal Hilide light fixtures for 36" tanks aren't worth it unless you are going to be keeping very high light species, SPS corals, clams, certain...

    4 Green Reef Chromis

Ha, I woke up this morning and think that I have 3 now. My "shy: fourth one was missing this morning and the three that were shoaling well were already out and about looking for food. I dropped a littel flake into the tank and the 3 eat well, but the 4th was no where to be found. I looked all...

    4 Green Reef Chromis

Hey all, So on Saturday I added 5 very small (1/2" - 1") green reef chromis. I drip aclimated them for 2 hours then added them to my 60g tank. Lights were off for the acclimation and for the first hour the fish were in the tank. I turned on the actinics for 1 hour and then the daylights for...

New LED Lights comparable to MH

U have been doing some research online at other forums and there has been pretty good feedback about this lighting. One thing that I have notice is that the tanks appears to eb very blue under the 20K LED. It is hard to tell while looking at photos over the net on a computer screen...

    Stocking 29 gallon

Sorry about the BTA - "Bubble tip" anenome. They are quite pretty and my clown hosted quite quickly. But once again, there is no garuntee. Here is some good info on Anenome's. I read this site before I got mine http://www.carlosreef.com/AnemoneFAQ.pdf Not sure really. As far as I know...

    Stocking 29 gallon

I believe that with that fish list, you would be overstocked for a 29g. IMO Domino Damsels are Territorial - You may have issues in a small tank. I hope you mean that you can give it back to a local fish store or a friend. 2 Clowns - Clowns do not need an annoneome to survive. My concern is...

Its been a while since I have posted here and... I am sad to say that my small reef in on the decline. The worst part about it is that it is all my fault. The costs of the holidays, as well as a lot of traveling lead me to neglect my tank and let it fall into a state of saddness. I have...

    Open top stands

Hey all, I was looking at a tank and stand combo at a major pet shop (chain) here in Los Angeles. It was an All Glass Aquarium 40g, 36x18x16. I love the size of the tank but I am not to sure abou the stand. The stand was made in MDF and the top was open. What I mean is that the top of the...

Sad day - Lost my first coral

Thanks, and good to know. But then I am left confused as to why the polyps seperated. The calcium was a little low at 380ppm. Maybe thats what casued it? My BTA is fine and healthy, so is my colt coral. PC bulbs are 8 months old now? Could this be a contrubiting factor? Any ideas...

Sad day - Lost my first coral

I came home one day last week and I noticed that my Green Open Brain polyps seperated from the skeleton. I freaked out and chech the water. Everything seemed great. The odd thing was the polyp was still bright green and opened and closed with my lighting schedule like it was ok. I thought...

skimmer, is this worth it ??

I had a seaclone on my 37 for a while. IMO, it is not worth the price. If you can swing it, the AquaC Remora is a better buy. Of coarse, it is twice as much. I have also heard very good things about the BAKPAC skimmer. Check them out as well. HTH John

    Metal Halide vs Fluorescent

If you really want to get technical....watts = Volts*AMPS. Your 260w fixture will "draw" about 2.36amps. (260/110v) Thats how much electricity you will be using. It will be about the same for a 250w MH fixture. Think of watts really as an output or product of consuming electricity. Its...

    Metal Halide vs Fluorescent

My friend works for the power company and I asked him the same question. A watt is a watt, no matter what. The power company bills you in watts per hour. The largest PC bulb (in an aquarium fixture) that I have seen is a 130w. Lets say you had a fixture that had 4 130w 36" lamps, thats...

    Dreamer/Nightmare 135 gal. Tank Diary(3.12.07 update)

I would have to agree with Tec that with a tank that size and at this point in time, 1-2 small fish will not casue a crash and will just help the tank develop. John
