    SNAILS EVERYWHERE!!!! Please advise

I have found the best way to decrease the snail population is to cut way back on food. I to had snail explosion years back. Loaches would eat a few but not many as it was much easier to eat the ample food I dropped in there. I was told to cut back on the food you feed by 3/4. Only feed once per...

    External filter

I second the FX 6 I have one on my 80 gal planted. Keeps the water clear for up to 3 months, and is easy to clean and restart. A little more money, but by far the best filter system I have used in 30 years of keeping fish.

    Oscar fish has white spots

Good the hear that it's taking effect. Do water changes more frequent and vacuum some but don't over do it. About 10-15% at a time. Keep the temp p above 86* F for at least 2 weeks after you don't see the spots on the fish. Then start dropping back to normal. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium...

    Oscar fish has white spots

Dimitri320 You do not have the water temp high enough at 83*. You need to get it above 86* F. Here's a link to Ich. http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_ich2.php Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    Oscar fish has white spots

I would leave them right where they are. Moving them now won't kill any ich in the tank they're in. Just heat the tank and watch it took about three days for the couple fish I had with it. The rest of the fish in my tank never were bothered. I did not use any salt as I have Clown Loaches and...

    What is this? Please advise.

It could be Ich. To be safe I would treat the tank for it to be sure. Here is a good link to Ich http://m.wikihow.com/Treat-Tropical-Fish-With-White-Spot-Disease-(ich) Good luck, hope your fish recover quickly. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

55 gallon tank, getting new floors

When we did our floors, I drained my 80 gal down about 75%, left the tank on the stand, had some friends come by and lend a hand. We moved it out on the back patio, refilled with water. 3 days later repeated the same process. Fish, plants and filter never noticed the difference. Other then a...

Using liquid Iron and Liquid CO2

Hi Dude Never tried liquid co2, I do use iron along with other nutrients. Look at building a co2 reactor for your co2, they work great on my 80 gal. Have to recharge them with sugar baking soda and yeast about twice a month. It's very simple and cheap way of introducing Co2. Here's a link...

Hi Zack I have had this same thing a few times, only the stuff I had was greeny/ blue not an algae but a bacteria. Covers everything and smells terrible. There is an antibiotic you can add that kills it. Problem is if you don't fix what's causing it. She comes right back only stronger this...

Can't get rid of algae bloom

I had the same problem on and off for quite sometime then discovered when the nutrients that I feed the plants get outa whack or not used in correct dosing was the main cause of algae in my tank. I have an 80 gal and found by adding 12.5 mL potassium, 7.5 mL iron, 2.5 nitrogen, 1mL phosphorus...

    Snails in tank !

I tried all that. Picking them out and lettuce trick. They just kept coming back. The only thing that actually worked was cutting way back on food feed to fish. I was just over feeding was all. I have hundreds on snails likely from plants I bought at LFS. They bread and multiplied it got bad...

treating ich with salt (how much)

http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_ich2.php The above link is what I used a few years back. Just used the heat part and totally got rid of it. Have heavily planted so skipped the salt and gravel removable. I did extra water changes and vacuumed for about three weeks to be sure. I noticed a...

    tank structurally ability question

Aqueon Aquarium water changer is the way to go. Simple less mess no buckets required. I found this one was better then the Python as it has ball valves at the vacuum end also. Check it out best $30 I spent on water change equipment. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    Blood worms

I picked up a little floating cone from the LFS and just drop the frozen cube into that. The worms or shrimp thaw inside this cone floating on the top and the fish pull the thawed snacks through the holes. Works great. Just google blood worm feeder and you should see lots of them. What did I do?

I do both clean and start the filter with a filter bag attached with and elastic band over the outlet pipe. Then do the water change. Although I have been using the Fluval FX6 for almost a year now and find this to be much less of an issue. This could be due to the larger diameter hose used...

Is my tank close enough to level?

I agree with ImACoolguy's replies. Your tank should be just fine. In my old place I had an 80 gal that was nearly 1/2 inch out of level. When she was filled up to the underside of the black rim you could not tell it was off. This tank was set up in the same place for several years with no...

    Almost Lost Favorite Fish Today

Mine can easily suck up a fish small enough to fit into the vac tube. My vacuum tube is about 2" wide 18" long. It has a boll valve right on top where the hose connects. Normally I stuff the truce into the gravel and clamp it to the tank wall. This way no fish can enter the vacuum end. When I...

    Fluval 406

I ran the older versions 404 and 405 for years on an 80 gal. Only one at a time. It was very quiet mine sat about 4 feet from me in the living room and never bothered me watching TV or anything else. It's a great filter and you can customize your media. Great filter for keeping the tank clean...

    Thinking of switching to LED

I used 4 48" 8000k white Ecoxotic stunner strips over my 80 gal. They worked great. They run cool, much lighter then all the other types I have tried. Use less power. They are a little pricy but there is no bulbs to change every 6 months. I am sold on LEDs the plants are growing beautifully...

    Canister filter vs hob filter

Sorry! If I have offended you or Mike or anyone else. LOL! Wrong there are literally 100 s of ways to keep your tank running with crystal clear water. Some methods take more time and effort then others. Some cost more some cost less. We are not saying your method is wrong to each his/her own...

    What is your maintenance schedule?

Caleb You should be able to unscrew the the screen from the tap outlet and tread your adapter into the faucet. I know some of the newer kitchen faucets you can't, but you should be able to use the vanity in the bathroom. If not you could always change out the faucet so you could make the...
