I noticed a lot of tanks have the heater across the back horizontal at the top of the tank. Is this purely aesthetics or is there a reason to do it this way? I have mine at the bottom, hidden.

I have two plants I have acquired, but do not know what they are. I have looked through the plant profiles on different web sites and cant find anything similar. one has jagged leaves and the other has a red tint to the underside and stem.

maybe some will think this as bizarre, but i saw an old commercial blender and want to make it into an aquarium. it would be ten quarts, and i thought i would wire the speed buttons for controls such as a hidden airstone where the blade was and maybe different color leds for some. any thoughts?

kids got me an aquarium for fathers day and I finally set it up in my office. Just a few goldfish and plants for now until I decide what to do with it. before coming here, I didn't realize how addictive this "hobby" could get.
