Celestial Pearl Danios or something else?

You are so flippin' helpful! :) I will do that with the bloodworms. I didn't realize that soaking them would help. I've never even heard of cyclops...unless we're talking about the mid-forehead one-eyed guy! I will ask Petsmart/Petco what they have in terms of baby brine shrimp. Thank you!!!

Celestial Pearl Danios or something else?

Good news! I'll figure out where I can get some. I wish Petsmart/Petco carried it, but I saw only regular-sized and not baby shrimp. I'm a big fan of giving fish what they like. I tried the freeze-dried bloodworms that I give my betta, but they float no matter what I do. The feeding I did...

Celestial Pearl Danios or something else?

I want to avoid live food if I can. I worry about parasites, especially if they don't eat it and it sits around and I can't find it to clean it up. It is a heavily planted/decorated tank, which is where they go when I want to feed them. I'm waiting semi-patiently for floating anacharis to grow...

Celestial Pearl Danios or something else?

Hi, again! I got my CPDs! There are 7 of them. I got them 5 days ago. They are super healthy and super lively. I've been having trouble feeding them, though. They come out just fine after 20 seconds of watching them and hang out in front while I watch them or sit on the couch doing other things...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Once I find a 6500K light, I may try frogbit again! It would be so nice if it did well. If it can handle the surface agitation caused by my bubble breathing dragon and my HOB filter, I'm good to go. I'm going to stay away from duckweed. I've read that it's a nightmare if you have an HOB filter...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Thank you SOOO much for telling me what to look for in a light! From now on, it's 6500 K or bust! This hobby is such a learning experience! It's also good to know that a betta shouldn't see his reflection, even in a hex tank. My betta is just fine now. He scoped out his territory the first...

Tank good enough for Celestial Pearl Danios?

I'm going to hold out for the celestials! There's a chance to get them this week. Now that they're hard to to get, I really want them! Ha, ha! They really are best for my tank situation. I would love to have neon tetras, but I keep reading that they need a minimum of a 20 gallon tank since...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Hmmm. I suspect I have a dud of a light. I have a 10 gallon tank. It's an Aqueon Floromax Plant Growth 18"L T8 freshwater 15 watt lamp. Other than a little graph that shows that the spectrum is mostly red, that's all that I see. I have the package right here. There is nothing more on the bulb...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Ah. Ok. Good to know. In my 10 gallon, I have a 15 watt T8 red spectrum light that is supposed to promote plant growth. It's on a timer set to be on for 8 hours. I guess that wasn't enough for the frogbit. Either that, or it wasn't happy about not having fish. I'm cycled, but I'm having a...

Tank good enough for Celestial Pearl Danios?

I just talked to the fish store guy. He orders fish every two weeks. Two weeks ago he told me to call him because he would most likely have celestial pearl danios this week. I just called. He hasn't gotten around to ordering, yet, but he checked and did not see these fish as available. He said...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

It sounds lovely, but if it grows out of the water, I bet the humidity will get to it like it did my frogbit. I have to have a covered tank because of my curious cats. Pennywort also seems as delicate as the frobit. I bet it wouldn't like the surface turbulance that my bubble breathing dragon...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

It sounds like a nice plant! I may consider it for my 5 gallon betta tank. Is your tank covered? Ever since the frogbit I tried melted, I've been a little leery of trying anything except for the most hardy plants for beginners. I've got a cat that regularly visits my betta, so an uncovered tank...

Arrival of fish at end of cycle question!

You have answered all of my questions! Thank you!!!! :flowers:

Arrival of fish at end of cycle question!

I've been cycled for a while, but I've been dosing pure ammonia and waiting patiently for celestial pearl danios. Supposedly, they won't arrive until Tuesday or Wednesday. They can't give me an exact day. I do realize that doing the big 90% water change the night before is important. If I do the...

Tank good enough for Celestial Pearl Danios?

Good advice! I'll get all of them as long as he doesn't get 50. Ha, ha! He did say something about ordering 12, I think. Drat. Maybe I should've gotten water wisteria. Oh, well. If this clunky stuff doesn't work out, I can always get it. Or maybe I should get both and see which one wins! :brows:

Tank good enough for Celestial Pearl Danios?

I hope the floating anacharis lives! I'm glad that I finally settled on a floating plant that can handle the turbulance of my bubble breathing dragon. The pretty floating plants that I wanted could not. I thought about getting some water wisteria, but I read that the roots are ugly when it's...

Tank good enough for Celestial Pearl Danios?

Yipppeee! I'm glad I got the pics posted, somehow! I'm glad you approve. I never know how "heavily planted" heavily planted should be! I've seen some mega planted tanks! I figure that the house and dragon kind of count as...umm...plants? Ha, ha!

Tank good enough for Celestial Pearl Danios?

Hi! This is my 10 gallon tank. I plan on getting some Celestial Pearl Danios soon. I've read that they are shy and need a lot of cover. I've just started planting real plants, so most of what you see is silk. I just added some floating anacharis, which is not in the picture. You can see the wood...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Thank you so much for your detailed message! I will keep all of these suggestions in mind for the future. Alas, there is no way I can have an open tank, right now. I have two cats. I decided to go with anacharis. In my opinion, it's not the best looking floating plant, but it seems best for my...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Thanks! I think I'm going to stick with the wisteria. It seems that the pennywort is too much like the floating plants that don't like surface agitation.

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

I am going to try to get away with no fertilizers. Wisteria and anacharis seem perfect for beginners. I'm researching pennywort, too. It seems to have a lot of what I'm looking for in a floating plant without the sensitivity to water agitation and tank hoods. I may be wrong about that. Still...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

I may try water wisteria instead. It seems like it's just as easy to care for...and it's much nicer looking. What do you think?

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Thanks! I guess I should've listened to this advice from the start! Ha, ha! I would really like red root floaters, but this is a nice compromise. It will provide everything I need in a floating plant...and it's real and most likely sold at Petsmart. It will float happily in my surface agitated...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Oh, good! I think I'll try it. It looks like Petsmart sells it. It's a nice compromise. It floats, but it won't hate my bubble breathing dragon. It's real, so it will be good for the water quality. Best of all, it will provide shade and comfort for my future shy fish. I'm assuming my future...

    Floating Plant Suggestions?

Hornwort sheds needles like a Christmas tree. I'm not a fan of that. Is Anacharis messy? I would love to have something real if possible. I found fake duckweed on Amazon. I really laughed at that!!
