    10 gallon reef

The light is a lumini pixie 30. Not terribly strong but it was affordable and does the job

Can fish get ich with nothing new introduced?

Ich is NOT always present in an aquarium. Ich must be introduced in some way. Ichthyophthirius multifilis (the parasite which causes ich) theronts (the stage of the parasite that seeks out a host fish) die without a host in about 48 hours at normal aquarium temperatures. Pictures would help...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Yeah whoops I didn't update it. I set up a nano reef a few months ago. Have you ever had a lot of needle dieoff with hornwort? My partner added hornwort to her new tank and the needles have fallen off in a matter of weeks. Wondering if it's just die off due to the new environment.

    10 gallon reef

It's been a little more than 6 months. I've had pretty good success. The only outright death I've had was an emerald crab early on. Had a firefish jump a few weeks ago and a pink bar goby jump early on. I lost a montipora digitata and a green birdsnest, but otherwise my corals have generally...

Pairing a Watchman Goby with a Pistol Shrimp

Have you seen the shrimp at all? I would give it a few more days. My shrimp/goby pair sometimes goes into hiding for a few days. My presumption is that this corresponds with the shrimp molting. +1 check for jumps or other such escapes. My goby has gone floor surfing once and made a few more...

    55 Gallon Stocking

German blue rams are a menace when they spawn. Even in a 55 I think its asking for trouble, especially with the reticulated loaches packing sharp spines. A fight could end badly.

    First saltwater tank

Ideally I'd like to do fish and then transition to a reef. It's a coralife biocube.

    First saltwater tank

Hey all, I'm looking to finally set up my first saltwater tank. I wanted to get thoughts on the biocube. They have 16g ones on sale at the big box nearby. Is this too small to start with?I've been doing freshwater fish for 15 years so I would like to think I can handle a small saltwater but i...

    Molly owning tips

I bred wild mollies that I caught in a drainage ditch next to a Walmart  This is to say- just about any water will do. They're hardly fish!! You also definitely dont need salt! Harder water is preferable. Bred them at moderate (76-78) temps.

What do you wish Big Box Store workers knew?

I think in addition to this, from a business perspective, consumers can buy their fish and supplies from the internet too. So having good information becomes a reason for people to go to a big box store rather than ordering off Amazon. Not that I care about that part. Yall know I'm in it to...

What do you wish Big Box Store workers knew?

This particular location of big box store is actually extremely good with fish and has a team genuinely trying to change the reputation of at least their individual store. (I've been buying fish from them for years). Otherwise I wouldnt have applied :thumb: thanks for all the replies!

What do you wish Big Box Store workers knew?

I'm about to start as an aquatics specialist at a big box store. I know freshwater pretty darn well but only the very basics of saltwater. I'm doing my research- some the old fashioned way, but I'm also curious what information experienced hobbyists might want getting out to those who know less...

    Stocking Only Yoyo Loaches?

No yoyo loaches in a 5 gallon tank. Not enough room for a fish that can get as big as 10 inches, requires groups and is quite active.

Tank still won't cycle! Add more fish?

I think the problem with fish in cycling comes from the fact that many who do it don't actually know what they're doing or do it wrong- like for example, when I started, people suggesting to me to just dump a bunch of feeder goldfish into my tank and ignore them for a month to start it up. A lot...

55 gal up and running / fishies struggling

Metroplex isn't the right antibiotic to treat columnaris. Garlic guard is worthless- garlic is bad for your fish (according to scientific research, not anecdotal evidence) Columnaris (caused by flavobacterium columnare) is a fairly common bacterial infection in fish. It looks kinda like fungus...
