    Now What... Fish-less Cycle

Yes. Chlorine will kill all your hard work. Turn off your filter, De-Chlorinate the water before putting it in if possible.

Tap or RO for fishless cycle

I have a 35gl Tall tank. My tap water Ph is 8.0 and a test strip shows it to be "hard" water. A visual shows the water to be a "little" hazy when looking at it. I'm very confused about this mineral thing now. I have not specifically read anything about required levels of minerals for a...

    Now What... Fish-less Cycle

Do a large 80 to 90% change. Then get your ammonia back up to 4 ppm. If your NH3/4 drops to 0 and Nitrites drop to 0 and have lots of Nitrates your good. See Item 7.L in article The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling. Hope this helps

Tap or RO for fishless cycle

Hello, Was just wondering if it matters if I use treated tap or RO water for my fishless cycle. I plan on going 100% RO at the end of the cycle. But I'm using treated tap until then. Is this OK? Or should I use RO all the way through the cycle? Thanks!

    Do I need a bubbler?

DISCLAIMER: I'm very new! Anyway, from what I have read, You don't need a bubbler if you have the top surface area to support the tank. Most of the O2 entering the water is from the air-to-water contact at the surface. I have a 35gl TALL tank which means I have a small surface contact. Only 30 x...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

I grew up with a small 10gl in the house my dad used to take care of. I loved to watch the fish as a kid and have always loved fish tanks. The bigger the better. At 47 years old I FINALLY decided to get one because I got a real good deal on a 35gl system. I actually want to go to a SW tank with...

    New tank cycling distractions

If I spend all evening staring at my tank while repeating "grow little good bacteria grow" in my head; will it make my cycle go faster? Just curious because I seem to do a lot of it. :eyes: Also, I would like to have some ideas on what to do to stop myself from getting to obsessive with the...

Home made caves and hiding places

I would think there would be a floating issue. If you assemble the bricks outside the tank, would you not catch a little air in each brick? Though I can't see Lego being air tight so ... Maybe you would need to let the air out by putting the structure in upside down first. Let the air bleed out...

    Hello

Congrats! I'm 4 days in and no change to NH3/4 yet. BUT, Just today I got some seeding material from my LFS for free! I was just at the right place at the right time. It's a 1/4 filter and gravel from his 125gl stock tank. I hope my party get's started now too. He said things "might" get moving...

    Are these rocks safe?

The bleach makes me more nervous than where the rocks came from. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination so I'm very interested in what the experts do have to say about "wild" rocks/gravel.

    Hi to everyone!

Welcome! My father had a fish tank too when I was growing up. Because of that, I have always had an interest. Funny how a fish tank/pond can bring a family together.

    New to forum

Nice job. I really like your setup. How big is that tank. I'm new so I'm not very good at estimating size based on it's inhabitants.

I was thinking of pitching the "Homeless Fish" angle too. So that's flowers, chocolate, dinner, and poor homeless fish. I think this might work...
