Setting up New to Me tank

Last but not least I moved the fish from their old tank into my new. I think they like it! The glowlights have been hiding a bit, but are coming out for food and have schooled with the neons a few times! The cories are all just great, they're like fish with adhd...

Setting up New to Me tank

On Sunday I had a massive sort out of the tank. I took out the snails and shrimp so I wouldn't squish them and took everything out of the tank. Gravel vacuumed the sand as best I could to try and lower my phosphates which were well over 5. I then went through all the sand with a sieve which...

Setting up New to Me tank

My lfs didn't have any shrimp, snails or otos which was very unlike them! I suppose it was the weekend, it gets so busy in there! I therefore braved pets at home (great with plants, hit and and miss with fish, usualy a good seletion of snails, shrimp and others!) Luckily my phone was working...

Where did the phosphates come from....?

Well she came round to look at the tank, and I was just explaining/moaning that someone who was going to buy them had let me down, and so I couldn't move my tiny glowlights from my other tank in case they got eaten by the raphael or just died of poisoning because the tank was overstocked... So...

Setting up New to Me tank

So yesterday I bought a couple more plants and a new ornament and didn't do much else! I want to get more tall plants and make more hiding places so the fish come out more. I'm also going to add the contents of my other tank (5 glowlights and some cories) to the tank and get a bit of a clean...

    No ammonia after two weeks

Did you use any use filter media/substrate etc that bacteria could have been on? And +1 with plants. I'm just wondering if you've managed to kick start your cycle and plants are taking things out? Otherwise - you've realised all of our dreams!! An ammonialess tank!

Setting up New to Me tank

So on Friday I did a bit more work on the tank. On Thursday I couldn't get the external filter to work without leaking all in the cabinet, assumed it was my tiredness so switched it off, stuck an air stone in and left it overnight. Got up early to have a play before work and I think the...

    A question about filters...

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone :) The tank I bought came with an axternal canister filter so I'll use that. Even with a spray bar there are a couple of dead spots, so I might add in my little internal fluval to help. On that note - is it best to use a spray bar for water movement or...

Setting up New to Me tank

Great minds think alike - managed to sell them yesterday :) They were already pretty big, around 15cm! I also sold the raphael because he was nearing 20cm and taking up a lot of space, and I read that he might eat smaller fish....I bought a bigger tank so I could have schools of small fish like...

Where did the phosphates come from....?

Whats the best way to clean it now its in the tank? Take it out and clean a bit at a time and hope I don't have a mini cycle? Whats the easiest way of doing this now? Algae is almost growing as I watch because the phosphates are so high lol! (I know phosphates don't cause algae, but they...

Setting up New to Me tank

So I've been asking a few questions and asking for help for various things for this tank, and I think it would be nice to show what I do to the tank. To set the scene, I found this advert on Thursday morning (luckily my day off!) Full tropical set up for grabs Description: 3.5ft aqua1 tropical...

Where did the phosphates come from....?

On Thursday I bought a second hand tank with fish, substrate, plants and ornaments included. I initially didn't clean anything, and chucked everything back as it was on the other lady's house. Yesterday I began to clean (stupidly didn't check water parameters before) as there was absolutely...

Pets at Home (UK nationwide pet store)

It seems to vary a lot. Plants are fabulous I've found, but fish can be a bit hit and miss. I've found that having a look in all the tanks first - if there are any with unwell fish I come back in another week and usually its completely different. They are really good at replacing dead fish if...

    Second hand tank questions....

I know I have them in my other tank - Its just weird that every other fish (around 30 in total - it is very overstocked and I'm rehoming many of them!) in various different bags and buckets travelled fine, and the 3 in with the cories were all dead as doornails!

    Second hand tank questions....

Thank you so much everyone! Managed to fit it all in my nissan micra and all went well! A couple of casulaties in the bag with some cories....cories were fine but 3 assorted fish died in that bag - did my cories kill them!? I might take some photos of the tank as it it now and keep people...

    Second hand tank questions....

I am just about to go and possibly buy a larger tank which is being sold as a complete set up by an old lady who can't with it anymore. Luckily the fish she has in it already (neons, clown loaches cories and a few others) are exactly what I'm after, and if there's enough space, I will add my...

Please help me through this cycling hurdle!

I would wait until the nitrite has been processed before you go and get your fish. After 3 months fishless cycling, I'm assuming you don't want to do a fish in cycle now!

    PLEASE HELP... angelfish swimming corkscrew??

My albino cory did that once - i hooked him out and put him a glass on tank water so he wouldn't get eaten by someone else if he popped his clogs and did a 75% water change just in case I;d got something wrong with my water. He then started to look a bit better and I stuck him back in the tank...

Beginner fish ideas for a 110 litre tank

I've got a 40litre with zebra danios, glowlight tetras and corys. I like that they all swim at different heights so the tank looks really busy!
  24. S

    A question about filters...

The ones in the lfs that say they are for 300 litres are like the same height as the tank and a bit more difficult to hide I thought when I saw them. AT the moment I have a fluval....2 maybe something like that. Its quite old but its so easy so change bits inside!
