So I moved the betta to a 35 gal and over night I lost more fish. The betta had weird coloration on the fins and body. A couple of my baby mollies died in the breeding cage. Is this an infection of some sort?

The end has come. I am sad to say all 3 nipped fish have passed away. Thank you for all those who tried to help even though my fish couldn't pull through the damage that they had suffered.

I did the vinegar test today. I have rocks that aren't inert :( Did a full tank clean and removed all gravel. The water looks clearer now. Thanks for your advice :)

I am doing that experiment with an isolated container with the gravel. The results did go up but it was only 72 hours. Will be expecting conclusive results on Wednesday. I'll give the vinegar test a go tomorrow. Results will be up in 14 hours.

so youre saying the tahitian moon sand (not moonlight sand) should stay nicely at the bottom since it is supposed to be coarser. just clarifying.
