Sterbai are my favorite.

I've been doing my research this week and pretty sure I've settled on mbuna. They just seem like the best choice for what I want to do.

I've kept aquariums for a few years, just recently moved somewhere that I can finally set up a bigger tank and want to give cichlids a go.

Picking up a 55 gallon this weekend and want to know suggestions on stocking. I've been playing with the idea of doing a Cichlid tank but the only experience I have with them is dwarf ram species. What do you all suggest? African or new world cichlids? Or should I do something completely different?

I've kept fish for a while so I know all the signs of a stressed and/or diseased fish, I've just never had any livebearers before so I have no clue what to expect. Thanks for all of the help and I'll keep you all updated with what happens here.

Can you post some pics of your wild caught sailfin mollys? I'm just curious what they look like

It's fairly large for a breeder trap I think, she's a decent size fish and has quite a bit of room for being in it. Here is a picture of her in it for size reference

Another question about these, what sort of fry am I expecting? More balloon belly or will they be normal molly? I know the ballon belly is a mutation but does the dominant recessive scenario still allow chance to have both normal and mutated fry?

My 2 Rams had already paired off before I put them in this tank, they don't bother any of the other fish and are very calm and peaceful. They just follow each other around the tank minding their own business. They rarely show signs of aggression and it only comes out when it's feeding time.

I have 2 20 g highs and my sticking goes as: Tank 1: 6 albino Cory cats 10 neon tetras 2 glass catfish Tank 2: 6 harlequin rasboras 6 Sterbai Cory Cats 2 bolivian Rams (mating pair) 1 mystery snail

I would do: 6-8 Cory cats A school of 8-10 tetras or rasboras A centerpiece fish such as a Ram Cichlid or maybe a Gourami of some sort

The light bar is nothing spectacular. I got it off eBay for around $20 and I think it has around 15 watts. The substrate is just pool filter sand, you can get a 50lb bag for like $5-$6 The only thing I do for the plants is add a fertilizer tab or two to the substrate every once in a while...

My favorite would have to be my Bolivian Rams, they just have such good personality for a fish.

You could probably put some dwarf Cichlid species in there and get away with it, such as Rams. There are plenty of plecos that stay small enough for a 50g, Bristlenose, Clown, Green Phantom are all species I can think of off the top of my head. There are many more though
