most of a stand build up

sorry its taken so long to get back to you guys, the tank is resting directly on the 2x4s, i saw no need for a top shelf because all the weight of the tank is on the edges anyways, i didnt notch the corner supports because i didnt think it was necessary, the biggest reason for notching the...

eco, low light, and no plants???

i plan on going with a high light and pressurized CO2 setup in the future but i dont really want to fork out the money for it right now, so what i was thinking was that i would put my eco complete and moon sand mixture in the aquarium, fill it up and run the tank with NO bulbs for awhile until i...

    Interesting lighting ideas...

you could always go full computer with it, my friends parents have a reef tank that is controlled by computer according to the fishs natural habitat, it changes light according to season and weather, on "stormy" days the light is dim, even the moon cycles change according to season and weather...

    Interesting lighting ideas...

i wake up really early when it is still pitch black so i let my fish wake up with the ambient light from a lamp in the room while im getting ready then i turn on my hood lamps for while im gone, i do the same thing in the evenings, i dont see why lighting patterns would matter to plants anyways...

Why do we measure still by WPG?

wpg isnt all that complicated if you read the stickies or just pay attention to specific threads, from early on i recognized that my NO lights didnt have the same characteristics or intensity that a PC setup would have, i just started experimenting with plants in my 10 gal with 20 wpg of NO and...

    getting off an old frame

yeah that was the plan, the silicone in the corners is looking pretty weathered so i planned on resealing it, using the razor blade on the silicone was an idea but i want sure if it would be effective but i will defenitly do that before i start prying on it

    getting off an old frame

i recently got an old 55 gal from a co-worker and to say the least it is in bad shape, it has all sorts of algea that are going to need a razor blade to get off, anyways, the top framing is broken is several places along with the cross brace so i ordered a new plastic frame for it, my question...

check the stickies in the planted tank forum they have all the info on pressurized CO2 you need, no worries on the tank exploding CO2 tanks are pretty hefty, and the best and cheapest place i have found to get pressurized CO2 stuff is ebay, just search for Milwaukee regulator

    Cannister filter and planted tanks...

lonewolf get a 75 compared to the 55, someone gave me their old 55 and im buying the equipment for it right now, but im having trouble imaging a cool looking plant setup with a tank that is so shallow depth wise, im thinking about fixing up the 55 so i can sell it and get a 75, tons more room...

About ready to get my plants

you will just be limited to the kinds of plants that you can keep without the CO2, i have the same setup with 2 wpg and no CO2, my plants do ok with my setup but they grow kinda slow, i havent really had any need for ferts but im thinking about them too, wait for someone else on that one, good...

    bowing 55 gallon.....

im getting this tank for free from one of my co-workers and i looked at it the other day and the front pane of glass is bowing out....... when you push on it it will bend back in, i had to cringe when she did that, the center support is broken so i assume that it has developed this over a long...

    2 dead otos

    2 dead otos

sweet, all good advice thanks, i think i will try to cut back the algea growth without the otos first then i will go back and get three instead of two and hopefullly i will get better results, i feel better now knowing i didnt directly kill them or anything

    2 dead otos

ok heres the problem, i had been getting some spot algea on my glass so i cut back on the feedings and light and i purchased 2 otos, i acclimated them and put them in the tank and they seemed happy, swimming and exploring the first day with no problem, a few days later all of my algea is gone...

    Siphoning into a tank

the bucket would have to be higher than the water level of the tank to be effective, and or work at all, in other words lift the bucket above the tank and siphon away, hah, sounds usefull ay, why cant you hook a python up to your sink?? they make all sorts of adaptors
