    Jungle Val question

They grow like crazy in my tank. I do know from experience that Excel makes them not very happy. They will melt and it really stunts their growth. I just have some 6500k cfl lights and use ferts. No carbon source.

    My 180 Gallon Build

Update: I acquired some new stock. I have some Gold, Marble, Koi, and a Silver veil angels. There will be 8 total. They are out of QT and in the main tank. In the QT I have 12 Sterbai Corys and 6 Bloodfin Tetras. I am going to add 18 more Bloodfins when I can find more. I really like these...

Ugh I want to get a 40 breeder to drill and a 20 long for a sump. I want to do a small reef tank but I don't know if I could get the other half to go along with it. [emoji53]

    My 180 Gallon Build

PWC time!! Getting some algae growth in the tank. It is starting to mature a little. Georgia or George? is taking a look at the water hose wishing for some food. I have some new stock for this tank in the QT. I'll snap some pics tomorrow and post them since it is supposed to be 97 degrees in...

I already used Google Photos so I'll try that. I was thinking of paying to support. Maybe in a few weeks. Just went on vacation.

    My 180 Gallon Build

Update: I finished cycling the tank. Performed a 50% water change and Nitrates are at 10 after the change. I am going to get some stock today and add to the tank. I am going to start light on the stocking. Probably go with some tetras or corys to start. Here is a shot of my home made Python...

    Attachment upload quota limit...

I am getting an error trying to upload additional attachments. It says I exceeded my quota limit. I think I am at the storage limit of attachments. How do I manage my attachments from previous posts? How much is the limit? Just looking for a way to manage this. Thanks in advance..

Im pretty sure ive made all the mistakes!

The above response is spot on. The only thing I would add is.......PATIENCE. Anything worth doing is worth doing right. I used to be impatient about everything in life including my hobbies and all it did was cost me ALOT of money and heartache.

    Any young aquarists out there??

I wanted to when I was a kid but my parents got me a dog instead. When I got my own place I started the hobby. Aquariums have always fascinated me. I'm 37 by the way. Got my first aquarium when I was 23.

    Tank maintenance question

Sounds like the tank is starting to mature. Just keep up with water changes as stated above. Water changes remove waste buildup and add essential nutrients and buffers to help maintain stability in the tank. I can really tell when I miss a water change in my tank. Things just don't look as...

Post your full tank shot here.

It is a wad of Pothos roots. Nitrates are always zero with that stuff in the tank.

    Rimless Tanks

Some silicone states it has a 50 year life and that is outside in the sun. I would think it would last a long time without UV damage from the sun. Silicone is some tough stuff when applied correctly.

    Rimless Tanks

The butt-joints of the glass where the glass is "glued" together is the structural bond. The bead inside the aquarium doesn't do much for strengthening the aquarium it is mainly there to prevent leaks. The end of one piece is glued to the face of the other piece of glass. It works the same with...

Oh my tank is drilled on the bottom with two corner overflows.

Sump for 125. HOB overflow or Drilling?

I looked in to a hob overflow but ended up going with a tank that was drilled on the bottom. I have a 135 with a 40 breeder sump. It has a Mag 9.5 for a return. The sump/tank combo works great. There are pics in my profile albums. I have never drilled a tank before but I would imagine it isn't...

    Canister filter and heater

I always wanted to try one of those SunSun filters. If I set up another tank and have a need I am gonna order one.

    Canister filter and heater

I like my Eheim Classic 2217. Simple and effective.

    Tank advice

That might work....or you could lower the water level a little until the filter output creates surface agitation. This works really good and is free!! It makes a little running water sound but I find the sound relaxing.

    Soil leeching into water column?

I don't have any experience with dirted tanks. I have read some threads about success with Miracle Gro and use the soil a lot for gardening. I would ride it out through the cycle and just see how it goes. Tannins are not bad by any means just when they get to high concentrations and cause a...

    Cory & pleco questions

My pleco is always hungry. Do you feed food specifically for the pleco? I use various sinking wafers and pellets. She tears it up. She knows when it is feeding time too.

    Tank advice

I usually notice some on mine when I need to do a water change. Also notice it after putting in fertilizer too. Be sure to not over feed. It is excess organic waste that is not water soluble. Like stated above it messes with gas exchange, light penetration, and looks bad. Paper towel trick...

    Soil leeching into water column?

Oh yeah that stuff is probably 60% peat moss and composted tree bark. Loaded with tannins. Shouldn't hurt the water but tannins do soften and lower ph. Something to watch for when it gets too dark. Use water changes to dilute it to a tolerable level.

    Soil leeching into water column?

What kind of soil? If it has peat moss in it then that could leach some tannins.

    Help please

Seachem Prime is highly recommended as a water conditioner. I would suggest getting that when you use up all your current dechlorinator. It does a little more than just dechlorinate.
