There's carbon in my filter and I use Prime as my water conditioner. We've lost two more Rasboras, unfortunately, but we've pretty much narrowed it down to a parasite that's just attacking the Rasboras or columnaris and the other fish just aren't symptomatic yet. We're treating for both.

The biggest issue I see there is the danios. They really need more lateral swimming space than a 10g can offer them. I don't know enough about rams to really make suggestions on the 45.

Have you looked into dwarf/honey gouramis? They usually need to be in groups of three (a male and two females), but they are generally a little smaller and less aggressive than bettas. I find them to be beautiful top dwellers.

Possibly, but something else you could do is put that gravel (and its snails, if you don't want them) in some kind of tight mesh. I've heard nylon pantyhose work well.

I would really suggest you get your (glo) zebra danio a school. He'll be much happier, even if the rest of the school is unmodified zebras, the school will give him an outlet for his energy an help him to feel more secure in the tank. Gasping for air at the surface is a symptom of both ammonia and nitrite poisoning. You'll want to test those parameters with something such as this. Also possible is a shortage of oxygen in the water if you lack an air stone or sufficient surface agitation.
