Yeah, it has not been updated in a while, but it would be a good one to revive.

Tank mates for golden wonder killifish

If the tank were bigger, I would suggest rainbowfish. My golden wonder killi does well with them - he doesn't seem bothered by their high level of activity.

Rare find - Blue Lobster in Massachusetts

One in two million chance of catching one... And as you say, he caught two! That guy should play the lottery.

Maybe the goldfish and guppies were feeders for the Oscars? Still crazy, though!

There was a picture: I couldn't really tell what was going on, but they did look small. But even 60 juveniles in a 30 gal seems like a lot, even temporarily. But then again, I don't know much about plecos: I've never really understood their appeal.

Just want to see what you African Cichlids lovers think

Agreed with all of the above, but I would take it one step further, and advise returning all the fish now, and then doing some research on mbunas and peacocks overall, and specific types, since they can vary a lot in temperament, needs, and even diet. I would pick the one type that you really...

    Ideas on new fish tank

A couple other options (recommend a 30 gal): - Option 1: large school of CPDs with a viper shrimp - Option 2: male and female pea puffer with a CPO For either, you could also throw in some amanos and/or nerites.

New tank owner that needs help!!

You can do a fish-in cycle, but you will need to get a liquid test kit to constantly monitor to make sure the levels stay low enough to not be too toxic to your fish. (But as Autumnsky said, it would be a good idea to get a liquid test kit regardless of whether you do fish-in or fishless, to...

    craigslist bad finds

The text of the ad was pretty brief, and I don't think it specified, but I hope that's the case: that would make sense! That seems like an important detail to include, though. Hopefully, someone bought it, with the plan of selling off them off or moving them to other tanks soon!

I am guessing the dye is leaching out of your gravel.

Will adding more live rock to tank help bring down nitrate levels?

Doesn't it depend on what fish you have, though? For example, my understanding is that wrasses (or some of them, anyway), need food a few times per day. Also, to address the original post: I would avoid canister filters for saltwater, unless you are prepared to clean them out frequently, since...

Freakgecko is the person who posted about Malawis before, not a type of fish (at least not that I know of)!

    First cichlid tank

Oh good! That's a relief: your set-up looks great for African cichlids! (And more specifically, as freakgecko noted above, Malawi cichlids.) I would skip the parrots and the clown loaches, then, since they are not really compatible with your set up. Plus, clown loaches need a much bigger tank...

    Clownfish fighting!

Oh, that seems like a really good sign: it sounds to me like they will probably be okay!

    First cichlid tank

Looks nice! Is that holey rock in there? If so, you might want to think about African cichlids, since holey rock may raise your pH, which is better for African cichlids than for other types of fish.

    MANY questions.

Interesting. I don't know anything about that. But I think a small piece of cuttlebone in the tank wouldn't be enough to raise the calcium too much - it hasn't seem to have hurt my shrimp (or snails).

    Clownfish fighting!

If they don't pair, one will kill the other. You should take one of them out. Edit: this will happen if they are both female. If they are still juveniles, they may work it out.

    MANY questions.

Agree with all that advice. Another way to quickly cycle a tank is if you can get any filter media or other matter (decorations, substrate, etc.) that has been in a cycled tank - if you have enough, you can get an almost instant cycle. As for cuttlebone, I just break off a small piece and leave...

    Python has no suction

True. I just turn the water on long enough to get the flow going in the Python, and then turn off the water, and let gravity do the work.

    Python has no suction

What I was saying is that you may actually have a faulty tube or other part, not that you put it together wrong (although it doesn't hurt to check that too). In my case, the hose was fine, but the tube was letting air through, independent of the hose.

    Angelfish Safe Algae Eaters?

What about snails? I like nerite snails for algae, and you don't need to worry about them taking over since they won't reproduce in freshwater.

    Python has no suction

You say you checked the connections, but did you check the tube itself to see if the connection is tight with the hose? I recently got a replacement tube that was faulty - air was getting sucked in through gaps in the tube.
