When to put in the breeder?

I have some swordtails that are getting close to giving birth. Last time, I didn't have a chance to move them and they had the babies. I don't wanna miss it this time, and I have a 10 gallon tank for them to have the babies in. I don't want to stress them out and have them die/prematurely have...

    Planted, no filter fry tank

I have a 10 gallon tank with a HOB filter for future fry. However, I dislike the noise of it. I was thinking of filling the whole tank with hornwort, elodea, and other fast growers and getting rid of the filter. If this isn't a possibility, I'll definitely continue to use the filter, but if this...

    Thoughts on 24/7 mode?

I finally got around to buying new lights. I purchased the Finnex Planted+ 24/7. Now the thing I'm really wondering is if the 24/7 mode can be useful at all. I know the PAR peaks for only around 3 hours, but I also enjoy some of the colors it gives. Would I be better off just keeping it on max...

Common Question - Is My Swordtail Pregnant?

I know this gets asked a lot, but I'm just really anxious to get into breeding lol. It looks like it's close, but not quite there. I'm just not sure, though; it seems to look different everytime. Thank you.

    Clear RCS

What should I do with the culled? I know it sounds bad, but should I put them in my main tank? They'll be eaten there. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Clear RCS

In my RCS tank, the majority of the newest generation are clear. Some are red, and some even brownish. Substrate is black, I do water changes. What should I do? Nobody will buy these clear shrimp, and I'm not such a fan of them either. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Plant Growth and Environment

I have made an interesting observation regarding the growth of Ludwigia in an outdoor setup. The growth outside in medium shade is drastically different than the growth in my tanks indoors. This occurred after the plants died off outside; I didn't think they'd ever come back. The Bacopa also has...

    Color Temp

I have tube lighting over my 55 gallon. Plant growth has been decent, but one of my bulbs broke in an accident a few months ago. Ever since, I have been using a 4100k cool white bulb and the other three are 6500k. Apart from the look that I'm not sure I'm so keen on, would I achieve greater...

    Overstocking? 60g

Wouldn't add another angel, but maybe a schooling fish that could avoid the Angels' harassment. I'm not sure how that'd work out with the crayfish, though. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

I have a 30 g aquarium and am not sure what to get

Keeping just one gourami is probably best. Also, plants should do ok in gravel, especially with the use of root tabs. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Black Tetras

Would it be possible to breed black skirt tetras in my shrimp tank? I'm worried about the tetras eating the shrimp/shrimplets. The shrimp tank is a 55 gallon filled near halfway. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Water changes, opinions on how much and often.

Mostly depends on bioload and if your tank is planted. Filtration doesn't give new water, though. Water changes are the only way to do that. A good starting point would be 25% a week. High nitrates indicate a need for bigger or more frequent water changes. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium...

One or two plant species tank

Has anyone ever done a tank with only one or two types of plants? I'd love to see some pics. I just took out a ton of plants in my 55 and am going to grow them outside during the summer. I left dwarf sag and vallisneria and am going to fill the back with the vals and the rest of the substrate...

    Death outbreak

I'll do a really large water change and yes I do weekly water changes. Also, the fish were added about 2 months ago and this recently started happening. I'll see if anything changed with the water. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Death outbreak

Hello. In my 55g planted tank, I've been having lots of fish deaths. My tank has been lowered from 12 fish to 4 fish in the matter of a few weeks. The tank was cycled before adding fish, parameters were good as of a few days ago but my API tubes broke in an accident (ordered more, should be...

List your favourite plants and why.

Ludwigia Broad Leaf, dwarf sag. I love the shape of the leaves of that particular ludwigia and the dwarf sag makes a nice forest carpet. I love the look of Indian red swords, but mine is just stunted and won't grow well. That's my fault, tho because i kept it in awful conditions for so long...

    Gravel to Sand

Most bacteria is in the filter, but it might have some impact on your cycle. I recommend not changing all of it at one time, though. When I did that, I stirred something up and my fish died.
