Hey all...I was wondering if any of you all have bought anything from walmart ever?

They had an aquatech aquarium kit for $152.

Had I believe the equivlent of emper 400...cover...and all your essential stuff except for a stand.

Any advice on this? I'd love a larger aquarium and I thought this was a GOOD price. I might just wait intil summer and stick with my 12 gal and 10 gal and see if I can buy a 55gal at a yard sale and piece together a 55gal. I would like to grow plants but KNOW the light set in the kit wont allow me very well ( jave fern and java moss here I come lol)

The same Wal Mart 55g tank/hood/filter is $99 at my local Wal Mart. My friend bought one and gave up on the inlcuded filter after not too long. The filter in the Aquatech kit is a Penguin 330 WITHOUT the Bio Wheel, so it is not that great for a 55g.

For $155 though, I think you can do a lot better with some looking around considering you might not end up using the included filter much anyway. Check around locally for the cost of seperate tanks and hoods. You can buy a really good filter or two online for very cheap.

Classified are your friend. There is never a day that goes by that theres not atleast 1 tank in my local classifieds.

Just try to look for sales, and keep away from kits.. they just give you the bare minimum of what you need and you usually end up adding more/replacing kit parts in the not to distant future.

My mom has that tank. She loves it.

During christmas they had a 46 gal bowfront for sale, and santa brought that too me. I love it.

The debate has always went on about buying from mass retailers opposed to petstores. But, if you ask me, money is everything. If it's cheaper at wally world, get it there. It is the same thing, no matter what other people might think.

If it's something you want...go for it. Everyone always upgrades anyways, so don't worry about the filter and that.

Its VERY simply to drop the biowhells into that. It already has the grooves builtin...I checked.

Then the Aquatech lid does not fit, so you have no filter lid or end up buying one from Marineland. Once you buy the two Bio Wheels and a lid, you are around $20. A complete Penguin 330 is only $22 to begin with.

Since you want plants as well, the included hood is not going to be the best thing around as you know. I really think that saving up and getting what you you to start is the best idea. You will likely end up replacing the hood, filter, and heater at some point which leaves you paying $155 for just the tank itself. Bio Wheel filters are poor for planted tanks as well because all the surface aggitation outgasses the CO2 in the water. A cheap price to start can cost more in the long run if you are not getting what you want.

My point is that for $155, the deal is not even that good imo. If it came with a stand, or a better heater or better filter, maybe. If tanks cost more in your area, maybe it is not that bad of a deal. But certainly double check with the local places first.

I bought that tank for like 140.00 and wish that I would not have.. I was looking for an Easy way to get a complete set.. However everything that came with it is still sitting in the closet as a few weeks later I decided to go Full blown SW Reef and couldnt use Anything.. I regret not grabbing the 125gal for the same price from Petco..

i bought a couple undershirts there once...and then there was another time when i picked up some of those nice car fresheners and some nu-finish car polish.

enough of being a smart ass...
i bought a 10gal tank for temporary holding while i reset my tank. it was $9 and got the job done. can't beat that.
i would never buy fish or plants from them....

My boyfriend bought a 29 gal set up last night from Wal-mart as a matter of fact for $94. Granted, you should look on ebay or call around and make sure thats ur best bet =o)

I think if its a good deal buy it *nod* Then you save money to buy some nice fish somewhere. I hate buying anything from Wal-mart (even tho I do anyways).

This stinks lol...I would like a bigger thank but I need to get it for a farely good chance. The lowest price I have seen on a 55gal empty was $80 I think...atleast thats what my dad said. I swear it was like 56 or 57 thoigh.

I got my 10 gal. complete kit for $50 from walmart, they had the same setup but a different brand at petsmart for the same price tho... and its been great... i buy all fish and supplies at petsmart or petco tho...
