I think I have two different types of algae... one of the green variety, and the streams have the brown... and boy do the browns stink. My wife thinks I should throw algaecide in to lower the levels of algae (she likes it with a little algae... she'd like to cut it back a bit)... Personally, I could do without the brown...

What are your thoughts on algaecide? There are four koi and a goldfish in there.

How long has your pond been going? Brown algae is usually only seen in a recently set up pond or aquarium, and goes away on its own in a few more weeks.

As for other algaecides, be really careful in choosing one. Many of them are not compatible with pond plants, or at least certain types of plants. A Natural type of algaecide is Barley straw, which can be used as just straw, or pellets made from the straw, or even a liquid barley exctract. I'm using the pellets this year, the water is clear, no algae in the stream, but it's not doing the job with string algae. I have purchased some Algaefix for ponds, but haven't tried it yet. It comes highly recommended from a member here who is a pond professional. Keegan hasn't been to the site for a while, but I trust his advice.

The falls have been running for just over three weeks... the stream rocks seemed to turn in a few days (they are covered in the brown algae). Again, I'm assuming its algae. The green algae in the pond really isn't that bad (yet), and it really doesn't seem to have gotten any worse over the past couple weeks. The string algae is starting to kick in though...

Thanks for taking the time... I'll keep an eye on it and let ya know.
