I've tried calling all the hardware stores in the area and I cant find these cheap alternatives to CaribSea.

Any suggestions?

Check with the local reef clubs (and join one) lots of them will order pallettes and sell them to their members for cost.

MrPope, try this link http://www.scmas.org/ we posted a link on the message boards and hooked up with a guy at their meeting that they had, he sold us 4 40 pound bags of Carribean Aragonite sand for 18 bucks each, it was more than enough for our 60 gallon. We are really happy with the sand, it didn't take long for it to settle either it was overnight we just followed the instructions on the bag. I noticed Marine Depot sells it too and from what I've heard and also in talking with them they have a will call window, they are located in Anaheim near Disneyland.

Hope this helps. :)
