Hey,

Does anyone know how to find out about aquarium conferences (when/where they are)?? Ideally, they'd be in the tri-state area, of course. I'd love to go one if I can. How do ppl find out about them?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Theres a bunch of clubs somewhat in your vicinity Jon; they would be great contacts to find out about regional and national shows as well as local:

Best bet would prob be the Brooklyn Aquariam Society: http://www.brooklynaquariumsociety.org/main.html . These guys do all sorts of stuff, shows, presentations, auctions, etc. And I believe they are associated with the NY Aquarium

There also one in Queens: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/greatercity/homepage.htm . This one also looks really active. Heh, and they're having an auction in April...wanna go? *grin*

One in Norwalk Ct: http://norwalkas.org/html/

In Long Island: http://www.liasonline.org/html/index.php

Now if I could only find one in MY area *sob*

Here in the UK we have the O.A.T.A which is the Ornamental Fish Association. They are there to help with the way fish are kept, they also have other types of information about conferances and they also do coarses on water quality, fish health etc. Maybe you have something like that in the States.
Also Local fish groups would be able to help.

Awesome! Thanks so much you both! This is very helpful info. It seems that the Queens "Greater City Aquarium Society" is having its first meeting of the year next Wednesday (the perrrfect time to find out!). I might seriously go to that, and yes, I'd be up for the auction, too (ages away though it may be!).

Terry, my parents are in Cambridge--the UK one--and when I go over to see them, I might try to catch a conference. Thx for the heads-up.

5 kudos winging themselves to your accounts.

Wow! Cambridge, 39 miles from me. A short trip down the motorway( i think you call them freeways) if you ever come over give me a shout, there is always a room for the night for a fellow fish keeper.

Very kind of you, and I will keep your offer in mind since I'll probably want to check out UK fishstores when I come--how big is your store? We can talk fishspeak!

Where are the biggest UK fishstores, btw? Do they have any mammoth ones that I shoudn't miss out on?

Thanks!!
Jon

No problem jon, give me a shout when you come over and i will take you round some of the stores in my area. My store is very small compared to some in the area, i don't sell Marine fish because i don't have the room. There are about 60 aquariums in the store and they are mostly fresh water tropicals and i have about 6 which are coldwater and 1 koi pool. I have a very basic store with no fancy filtration systems and i mostly work here on my own so that is enough for me. Cambridgeshire and Essex has loads and loads of stores and there are quite a few of them that are large. The one thing to remember is that large in the UK is probably small in america hahahah.
