I just got 5 baby albino bn plecos, each about .25" in length. Will the algea in my tank and algea tablets be fine for them, or do I need to use baby food for them because of their size? Thanks.

I feed mine chunks of broccoli stems. Just microwave for about 20 seconds and let cool.

I don't eat many veggies myself, so there aren't any around to feed my fish. Will they be okay with what I have (algea in my tank and algea tablets), or do they need special food at that age (I'm guessing 10+ weeks old)?

Your fish would benefit from fresh veggies, but more importantly so would you. Humans thrive when fed a diet containing fresh veggies and fruit.

The pleco will certainly appreciate some veggies! In our grocery store, you can buy small pieces of broccoli instead of the whole head. Look for the "bulk-type" bins in your store. In our store, I get a small number of broccoli florets for me, because my husband won't eat them either and I can't get through a whole head of broccoli myself. You could get a floret or two; there should be enough stalk on it for the pleco. I did that for my pitbull pleco when I had him. I also went to the baby spinach bin and got one leaf of spinach at a time (more than one leaf would go bad; they didn't really keep well in the frig). The cashier would look at me funny when she tried to weigh one leaf in the baggie, but it worked out well for the pleco. About twice a week he would get a nice, fresh leaf. Two other days a week, he got the broccoli stalk, or a piece of zucchini. I fed him veggies every other night, and the rest of the time he grazed on algae.

Geeze Tony, how did you get so lucky to find them? Albino plecos are worth $45 each and are very hard too find. Where will you put them later?

I don't think there will be enough algae for them to grow properly. You should really go out and buy some fresh veggies. They are very cheap.

Zuchinni, frozen peas (skin pealed), and broccoli are very good for them at this stage.

You could even just get a bag of frozen veg and just use one piece at a time. We don't eat too many vegs at our house also (mainly because I don't cook except for maybe once a week) so I just have a bag of frozen peas in the freezer. Then when it's feeding time, just microwave a couple of them and feed to the fish. We've had the same bag now for MANY months. I actually left it sit out one day on accident and then tossed it in the freezer, not even THINKING about the water. The next day, it was a solid ball of peas. :D

I actually don't think they are bn plecos, just albino dwarfs, I mis-spoke. I don't know if that makes them a lot less valuable or not. I got all five of them plus shipping of Aquabid for $29, so they must be really easy to breed. I will probably end up either clearing room for them in my tank or giving some away once they get bigger, I didn't really want 5, but thats what the auction was for.

Anyway, I actually do like peas, I just forgot fish ate them. I popped a few frozen ones in the tank w/o the skins, but my other fish ended up eating them. I think I will have to get a veggie clip and something like zuc to stick in it.

Never mind, they are bn. They are just so tiny you can't tell. Unless the auction was a lie and they sent different fish. :?
