I'm a complete newbie. I have my first ever Beta and I gave him some plants. An Anubias, which is doing really well, and a banana plant. My banana plant did not have anything growing, leaves or anything, just the "banana". I figured it would take time, but the whole thing turned pretty dark brown right now and has a fuzzy white algae developing on it. I have been cleaning it, and fertilizing it, but I see no change (it has been about a month and a half). How can I tell it is dead?

Yes, it's dead. It should look like this: 1727902988804.png
I'd scoop out the plant in a cup so that you don't break it all apart and make it messier to take out.

Thank you so much. I did clean again, it is not disintegrating yet, it's actually still sturdy just pretty brown with nothing growing out of it. I'll give it another week, and then I will just have to discard it, I'm sorry to say.

Always get your Banana plants with leaves not just the roots. (y)
