any one own them? im thinking of getting one and putting it in a 33gallon as i hear they are really slow growers and by the time it out grows a 33 gallon long i will have moved my e-cat form a 70 gallon too the larger tank and move the black piranha too the 70 gallon from the 33 gallon, any info would great, thanx.

Illegal here in NY, I'm afraid. Haven't even seen one for sale in several months (in New Jersey, perhaps).

Sorry I can't help out.

Oh well. Hope you get your piranha eventually. Mind you, you do have one awesome fish already! I don't even know where to find an E-Cat! Out of interest, where did you get it? I've never even seen one advertised online...

i special ordered it from my lfs, they wernt even expecting too get him untill october-novemberbecause of some kind of seasonal thing, but they orders some other fish from africa and he came along, it was around 5" when i got it and i was looking for a 2" so im guessing this one was born early, they are only wild caught and have never been bred in home or public aquariums yet. i got him a little over a month ago and hes already grown 2".

That's awesome. When I get a stable job, money, and a house big enough to house one, I'll get an E-Cat. But only if I can afford a 200-G aquarium! Mind you, at the rate I'm going none of that will happen...

I've seen the electric eel at the NYAquarium several times now, and though it's always asleep or REALLY bored when I come around, it is still a remarkable animal. Think about it, a fully grown one has a really good chance of surviving in nature with that adaptation! Pity they get so big!

oh yeah i would love an electric eel but there is no way that i could house one properly, you wouldnt need a 200 gallon tank for e-cat, you can keep one in a 20gallon for a while untill its about 8" and a 70 gallon will last a ling time because once they pass a foot they slow down in growth and they can turn in tight spaces with not problem unlike other fish, and i dont think they would get too 3 feet in a home aquarium any ways.

I'll keep that under consideration!

Yeah, the E Eel in the NYA is about 4 feet long, and really rotund. They keep it in what's probably a 300-gallon aquarium with very few plants/rocks. It is, of course, by itself!

I don't imagine you can even buy one in stores--they're probably illegal. Frankly I was surprised you could buy an E-Cat! But, hey, very cool.

Thx.

iv talked too some people that own e-eels but i really dont see the point unless you can house it properly and those people couldnt.

Serrasalmus rhombeus is a cool piranha, I like very much, but with a max size of 18"+ and the ability to snap a human wrist this is one fish you should be carfull around.

heres a handy Rhom link
