Hello. I've found you can breed these fish in unheated tanks as long as the temperature in the room you keep your tank stays at a constant 72 degrees in the Winter and 77 degrees in the Summertime. Typically, this species requires much warmer water. These medium large fish are hardy and should be at or near the top of your list of fish to keep if you want egg layers. I've been keeping quite a few in a 55 gallon tank for close to three years and changing out at least half the tank water every five to seven days. They're not picky eaters, so will take most types of flaked food. The key to any success in tank keeping is the water. Keep the water clear of dissolving fish waste by removing and replacing most of the tank water weekly and you'll be successful.

I really like Giant Danios too. The adult males display awsome colors.

Mine are voracious eaters, forcing me to overfeed in order to ensure the bottom feeders get enough to eat.

Btw, Giant Danios are one of the few species that are still reasonably priced.

Hello V. I have to keep them in a 55 gallon "species only" tank. The fry are smart enough to keep their distance from the adults, so it's easy to make sure the fry get enough to eat.

Well, thanks. I've been in the animal and/or fish hobby since 1984. But, I get involved with things and don't get back to posting for long periods. I'm trying to improve, though.
