theres this red bloodish stuff on my corys barbell... i always thought they had that gut stuff like bugs...its at the base of the barbell

[center:8991860fff]YES!!!!!!!!!!!![/center:8991860fff]

Insects do not have red blood cells and therefore, their blood is not red. Fish have red blood cells and therefore when they bleed, it is red.

QT your cory and look after it. What kind of substrate do you have? The barbels will break on rough substrate. Hopefully you caught it earlier enough and there will not be an infection at the wound site.

okay i have sand and i dont have any anti bacterial stuff... i wont be able to get it for awhile... is there any chance it wont get infected? and uhh i dont have a quarentine tank

fish blood...

Yes fish can bleed... I've never seen a pet fish bleed though... Anyone with week stomaches do not read the following...

When I was younger, myself and a few friends and relatives did things that I definitely wouldn't do now... I had one friend in High school that liked to catch sunfish and stick firecrackers in their mouth... I really don't know why I thought that was funny back then... doesn't make any sense... I was fishing with my half brother once and we were mostly catching sunfish that day... I made a sarcastic comment "wow that fish has a lot of color" because it obviously was very plain... so my brother says "you want to see some color" and he squeezed the fish till it's last meal and blood and who knows what came out it's mouth... Ok, no one wanted to hear all that... I'm sorry... I wouldn't take part in anything like that today... anyway, I guess I only brought it up to say that fish definitely do bleed... They can get infections but should heal up with little problem... I would be concerned with how it got that badly hurt in the first place... Hope he gets better soon...

Looking at your other posts, I see you have d-puffers with the cories. I'm guessing one of them bit your cory, d-puffers are notorious fin-nippers and a species only tank is almost mandatory. If your lucky it wont get infected, but I would sperate the puffers and corys.

krap101--rig up a tank separator ASAP. I didn't realize you had puffers in there!
What happened to your 5 gal tank? The last thing I remember reading was you were going to put puffers in there, then you had some live bearers....

If you want to learn this hobby, have patience, don't fill all your tanks up--EMERGENCIES HAPPEN!! Furthermore, you need to read about each species and its compatibilities before you go tossing fish in with each other. We are all here to learn. Once you have learned something, THEN you can apply it. I remember you stated there were no books on puffers in your library, did you order any books on-line? This is all part of learning. Just like anything else, maybe you want to be a marine biologist--you can't just go get a job, you have to LEARN how to do it.

i didnt think it was the puffers because they were staying away from the corys so just wondering because i never saw a fish blead so 2 puffs in the 5 gallon and everything else in the 10

Listen *EDITED, this portion of your post does not comply with the terms of the User Agreement you agreed to when you joined the site*, I have tried and tried to get you to do research and get your act together. Just STOP.

If you're going to ask questions and disregard whatever knowledge is set forth for you, quit wasting your time and ours. You're obviously going to do whatever you want.

People here have played 1) "nicey nicey" with you, mainly those naive or sympathetic to your posts and actions 2) They've ignored you and hoped you'd go away or 3) Tried like heck to keep you from making yet another mistake.

I've been your harshest critic, and I will continue to be despite others attempts to either blissfully ignore your incompetence, or those who hope you'll just go away. I hope other hobbiests will eventually step up and unleash some constructive criticism as I am really feeling like the lone voice on the wilderness when it comes to trying to steer you hard in the right direction.

EDITED to be nicer and more family friendly

Scott is being harsh, but he is completely correct. Come on, take this hobby with the seriousness that we're trying to convey to you. The death of fish is no small matter--you are completely in contol of these fish, and this is a situation of great *responsibility*. I know it's exciting to get new fish, but PLEASE start treating them responsibly.

Krap, when you respond to others' posts, you tend only to respond to their suggestions, but not to our concerns. Please take our concerns into consideration!!! We are telling you these concerns repeatedly because you don't seem to be listening.

Well since ScottS already got the slap down for some now edited explecitives out..he saved me the trouble.
Every time the flow was being encouraging and rather soft, I was bringing up some of his OTHER posts. Specially all that breeding business. :x

Everybody deserves a chance but he has been going against the flow of advice since day one and steadily buying many incompatible fish despite suggestions against it..
And now...
He thought they had guts like bugs?! He put the puffers in a small tank with his poor cories despite several posts saying "DAnger Will Robinson?!"
This guy need to go get some interesting pet rocks and try fish later when he matures... I'd say older..but my 6 year old son has got his Chocolate gourami to breed! What do you all think of that? All I do is help him with his 50% change. He does all his vacuuming, and decoration cleaning and water testing and feeding ON HIS OWN. If He can do it this young fella should be able to! Not only that..the money my son spent? He made last summer getting rocks out lawns, picking up new fence debris and weeding for several of our Korean neighbors who encourage him. he made 400 dollars last year after his 6th birthday working for pennies!! My daughter invested hers and had 1800 to spend on her Betta project this summer.
BTW She is 8 years old!... So you cannot make any more excuses for him to ME!!
I have been Cassandra with vague prophecies of doom..
Scott S has been NOSTRADAMAS!
How many needlessly dead fish does he have under his belt now? He even managed to kill gourami!

YHBT

Fueling the fire makes the fire bigger

To quote Obi Wan: "Who's more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?" *edited to correctly quote the movie after watching it again

Heh! And here I thought that was Confucian..

You have a point...
Except I was already on fire over this poster. I don't care if any one conflagrates with me..... I do not need company.. noooow  *grumble* *grimble-mumble* *mumble..still think he should downgrade to pet rocks for a while..mumble rasafrassa..grumble* Hhurumph! :|

Just feeling some huffy self righteousness after being painted a big unfair unhelpful meanie... so I had to point and go "see?..see...?!" I said my KIDS were mature.. never mentioned myself being so...

bleeding fish...

I haven't been here or as often as a lot of you, so I don't know each of you so well.. I am starting to know and understand a little about some of you, but not enough for me to jump in on such an argument as this... There is a lot that could be said in defense of either side and I don't want to take part in that, however, couldn't we continue to try to encourage, and criticize when neccessary, without being hateful? I just looked at krap101's profile and noticed that he (just guessing a he) just turned 13... Now I don't want to say, "he's only thirteen, leave him alone" and I also don't want to say "13 year olds aren't that bright or mature"... I wont say either... But I do know that when I was 13 I probably wasn't responsible enough to take care of fish on my own successfully... I also want to mention that krap101 is here and as far as I can tell, trying to learn... If he didn't care for his animals or what we all had to say, he wouldn't ask... Now I understand, maybe you've said stuff and he hasn't listened... For all we know, as far as fish are concerned, we might be the only positive influence he has, so I think we need to be a little more patient... I think it is ok to be critical when neccessary, maybe grab hold of him and say "hey, are you listening" but I think if posts need to be edited by someone else then there might be a little too much anger in it... even though we might be thinking of the fish, being so harsh could have some serious effects on krap101 and on the care of his fish... So I say, let us continue to encourage, and again I say criticize when neccessary without causing injury to each other... some of the words that have been spoken here would hurt me quite deeply if they were spoken against me, even if I deserved them... I'l probably never come back here again... now some of you might not care but that's not going to help him or his fish... I think if someone feels that strongly about something it might be best to speak such harsh words in private instead of publicly humiliating them... Sorry if I offended anyone with any of this, I just think this should be a more peaceful community... "that's all I have to say about that."....
