Ok this is getting frustrating. I have a clown trigger and a porcupine puffer in a 72g tank for the next 8-12 months until they need a bigger home but I cannot keep this tank clean. They both tear food apart and despite have close to 2000gph flow food still settles in with the sand. I orderd a ton of those cheap snails on ebay thinking they might survive but the trigger and puffer have been pecking them all day/night so I guess this plan will not work. Anything else I could try? I was thinking of getting some real big hermits but am afraid they could possible grab the fish when they are sleeping. I was also thinking of a large crowie but I think the fish will bite the eyes or whatever else sticks out from the front of the snail. Anybody have any suggestions?
On another note when I was on vacation a 6 weeks back my mom overfed the tank real real bad. When I got home the clown was ver pale but acted normal. I did a few large water changes and spend a long time cleaning up all the leftover food. A week or so later his color began comming back but he still has not regained his full color. All my levels are zero excpet nitrate which is hovering around 50ppm. Is it just due to excess waste and high nitrates?
