How can I clean my live rock? I want to take one piece at a time, clean it thoroughly and re-introduce. It's OK if I "kill" it, as I have much other live rock to sustain...

I wouldn't do that then. Algae is the result of too much light and too much nutrients. That's not going to change even if you bleach the rocks and start again. Lower your nutrients and light hours. Get a fish or clean up crew that will eat the existing algae. Those are better options than cleaning the rocks to kill the algae. (y) The ocean is not a " clean" environment and neither should a home tank be. It's an environment that has problems and solutions all in one package. We tend to forget that in the hobby. :(
