Can you breed cories? I have one that is looking like it's ready to bust, or is it just eating too much (wouldn't surprise me), and if you can breed them are they live bearers? or do I need to get it oout of the tank and into a QT area? (I'm full of stupid questions, arn't I)

Corys Breeding

Hi,

Corys will breed in community tanks every few weeks, especially after large water changes - 7 to 8 degrees cooler than the water they are in. They are egg layers. Daily feeding of blood or black worms really gets them ready. They and their tank mates will eat the eggs before they hatch. It's best to remove them, if possible and use some methyline blue to prevent fungus. NOTE: The fry are extremely small, barely visible to the naked eye - to the point of oftentimes not being able to eat baby brine shrimp. A little mulm, I repeat, a tiny bit of mulm on the bottom of a gravelless tank will give them what they need for the first few days - and then they'll be able to handle the BBS. They babies, once you can see them have a really neat whirligig way of swimming. Fun to watch. I particulary enjoy breeding the albino corys, as the babies are easy to spot. Have fun!

Yes you can breed corydorus, IMO the albino, bronze and peppered are good cory's to start with. If you are really lucky you can get just a pair to breed, they really like to be in groups.
Guppyman is spot on with what he said.
