hi i have 2, 40 gallon freshwater setups. my question is my friend just started a 35 gallon. is there any way i can help her quicken her cycling? maybe giving her some water? or something else?

If your tank is fully cycled and healthy, a bunch of substrate (gravel/sand/whatever you're using) in a net or stocking will help give her some nitrifying bacteria; maybe a cup or so. Do make sure you take it out and give it to her fairly quickly; don't do it if your not going to see her the same day, and DEFINITELY don't let it dry out. Maybe give her a couple of decorations as well as the nitrifying bacteria colonise surfaces. Just be sure not to give her TOO much stuff from your tank (Like, not all the gravel *grin*) as you don't want to mess up your own nitrogen cycle. If you run a bio-wheel on your tank you can give her a little more gravel then if you don't have one.
