I will be taking out the sheet rock in one of my closets because i am having a mold problem....i am going to tear it all out insulate it and vapor barrier it and rock it again. My tank sits literally right out side of the closet. Just wanted to know what the best way to cover the tank would be since moving it is out of the question. Could i just throw a piece of plastic over it? I would assume the tank needs some room for gas exchange, so would it be better make some sort of tent over the tank? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How long is it going to take? If you're talking about a day or so, I would put plastic over the whole setup. You don't have to make it air tight, just avoid the debris. Even sanding the drywall, the dust settles down.

Its a small closet, Im sure I will have it all done in a day...just wasn't sure if i needed to give some room for gas exchange, but givin the short ammount of time, I don't think it would be a problem. Just makin sure! Thanks! :D

I'm not sure what sheet rock is, but we've been remodeling for two years...uugghh...

If it's anything like drywall joint compound, when sanded, it will make very fine dust -- even worse than sawdust. If it's just for a short time, cover your tank well! There's nothing worse than drywall dust! I would put some plastic drop cloths over the tank, and then some damp towels or an old sheet over the plastic. That will help absorb the dust better than plastic. When you pick up the plastic, any dust on it will scatter and get back into the air. The damp towels or sheet will help solve that problem.

Depends on your part of the country, I suppose, because around Chicago they call it drywall, but growing up in Missouri, we've always called it Sheet Rock. Now I'm moving to Marquette, where they'll probably call it "Dry Rock, eh". Silly Yoopers.

Ha ha...yea....we call it drywall and sheet rock over here too....I was like how the heck could this guy be remodeling for 2 yrs and not know what sheet rock is! I HATE drywall dust!

Hi...well, I'm a girl and my husband's been doing the remodeling...I'm just living with the mess in the meantime!

You guys are right about the different names -- I've never heard it called sheet rock around here. But whatever its name, the dust is horrible. Be careful of it around your tank! Good luck!
