Today I got an order in of 3 zoanthid rocks. They are different than what I expected, but they are zoos. The colonies are quite large, one covers at least a 6 inch area, yet the individual polyps are about half the size of the other zoos that I have. It is not that they arent open, you can tell this is how they are to be. Can someone tell me the name difference? As cute as they are, they arent really what I wanted to get and I would like to know as to avoid them in the future.

Can you post a pic?? I doubt we'll be able to help, zoos are pretty much just known as zoos 8O I was reading today where Eric Borneman said at IMAC that id past genus is nearly impossible on most soft corals.....

The larger one looks to me like what I call green button polyps. The small ones look like some of the zoos I got from Bryan @ Logical Reef...don't have a real ID for them. The large green ones...some type of palythoa maybe? Are any of them connected to a mat like base or are they individual polyps?

For it to be palythoa (sea mats), that woulb be correct. I thought the same thing of the big rock, looked like palythoa, but with the absence of the mat...I'd say they were zooanthis sp. No help for what you wanted...maybe shoot Bryan from Logical reef a pm and see if he'll look at this thread.
