I have a fish that at first thought that it had that cottony like stuff on its back and then I decided to dipped him up with a net andwhen I got the flashlight and was looking at him from above I noticed that he just didnt have any scales on his back (Gold Dust Molly) and that when you look directly down at him some of his scales where sticking out like a porkypine. Should I medicate or put him out of his misery? I also have another molly witha big hunk out of the middle of his tail......I dont have a clue to what is going on in there at night while I sleep!

I've had Koi w/droopsy.
There's really nothing you can do for the fish once the scales have started to stick out. It's too far gone at this stage.(unfortunately :( )
However... On 10-30-03 I photographed a white goldfish with droopsy.(scales protruding, lethargic, motionless on the bottom of my indoor pond)
To this day, this fish is still alive.
If you want to see the photo, email me and I can send it to you. I didn't want to add it to my gallery.

I wouldn't give up hope yet, but of course it's best if you can isolate at least the one fish.
From your list, I'd guess the tiger barbs are harassing the other guys - esepcially since you only have 2 of them. Get more and they may go after each other, instead.

Well its too late. He died today while I was x mas shopping. The tiger barbs dont seem to bother any of the other fish. Maybe because they were sick for some time with ick and there had been 8 of them but no just 2. They seem pretty happy but I am going to get some when I get my rainbows out of the qtank.

Aww I'm sorry ADCISCO; dropsy can be very difficult to treat as its actually a sign of disease rather then a disease in and of itself.

Btw pondmom; good pic of the dropsied goldie. Shows that the scales don't have to poke out too much for it to be dropsy. And I'm LOVING your angel!
