Hey everyone I got a 55 galon aquarium in my honors bio class and ym teacher wants me to set it up with any fish I want. One thing she says it needs to be a "working" tank that has breeding egg layers. So if anyone can give me some species that are really easy to breed i would be really grateful thanks,

Convict cichlids (Archocentrus nigrofasciatus) breed like rabbits, but a breeding pair will usually kill anybody else nearby. This is not a problem if there is nobody else though.

They lay their eggs out in the open and care for the fry, so it could be cool for a project like that.

Zebra Danios seem to breed very easily, but they will eat the eggs and fry if they're not separated. They are a cute, lively fish :).

Kribs are easy to breed, all they need is a flowerpot. The good thing is that they are good community fish, and wont kill all the other fish when they breed, just chase the other fish from their babies.

I think for a school project type tank, the convicts would be the best way to go. A pair in that tank will pretty much fill it with babies quicker than you think, and would demonstrate the breeding process quite well. They are also pretty easy to come by, and are hardy.

Im gunna look into the kribs cuz I know about the convicts and well...convicts suck cuz they kill everyone lol...oh and as an update are teacher found bout 6 outher assorted tanks and we might make a river tank out of them :!: i'll keep everyone posted
