Eheim Filter Maintenance

I've got an Eheim 2327/84, which is an external wet/dry canister filter/heater.

How often should I clean/check/lube the parts, and how often should I change the filter media (eheifsubstrat filter media balls)?

My tank is 35 gallons - when I replace the filter media, is leaving 1/3 old filter media (to keep the bacteria) in each of the 2 media baskets ok, and replacing the rest with new media, or should I leave more?

You should clean the Filter every 3 months, that means changing the carbon pad and slightly rinsing the filter floss. I do this every three months to my EHEIM 2235 ECCO. It Works!

Its an Eheim Pro II, not an Ecco...no carbon pad/filter floss in sight
