Adding a fiddler crab to a 55gal oscar/dempsey/tinfoil barb/pleco tank, all fish 6 to 8 inches each. Good idea???

I agree with Madame- the crab may be able to hold his own MOST of the time, but the first time the crab molts, he will be defenseless and will be easy pickings for a hungry, opportunistic cichlid.

that, and you risk PH shock because I'm rather certain the crabs at the LFS wouldn't be kept at the PH level that Chichlids like.

I don't think a crab and cichlids will be a good combination. Crab would probably be thinking "Oh crap" and your cichlids "yum yum".

But i have seen stranger combinations over the years.

the crab wont work i fed one too an oscar around 6" a while ago and neither will your tank with those fish for long, way too small, for those fish mabey fine for a jd or possible 2 but not an oscar,jd,tinfoil barb and pleco alll of those fish can exceed a foot in length.

That's the Ph fiddler crabs are actually supposed to have. 8-8.5.
They're brackish anyways.

It dosn't matter what their SUPPOSED to be in.

What matters is what they are in at the LFS, since that is what they'll be acustomed to.

Actually, the ph still doesn't matter since he's talking about New World american cichlids :) They have a lower ph range than the Malawi's and Tangs, more like 6.5 to 7.5, rather than the higher 7.5 to 8.5 of the rift lake guys.

Ok... so I guess I need to skip on the fiddler.

How about a nice colorful 1/2" guppy... would that one survive???
hehe... j/k

Thanks for all the advice.
