If I bought a 10-15gal aquarium which would work better in it-

Two common goldfish + once small fancy goldfish

or

5 head tail lights
5 het rasboras (all are less than an in and I believe full grown)
and 3 Brilliant Rasboras

They are all very hardy fish it seems like. Im not sure even a 15gal is big enough for either of those groups. I need to separate my tropical from my goldfish (still) and im trying to figure out the best way with out my roommate flipping out =o)

Not trying to be difficult here, but why not get a 20H for a few $ more than a 15? That would be OK for two smaller Goldfish of the other combination you have, and you could still use a 24 inch hood to save money.

I didn't know if a 24in hood would work with a 20 gal- thats good

hehe ur not being difficult, Im the one being difficult hehe

I have a 29 gal in my room which I would REALLY like to keep my goldfish in.
And my friend Sue would fish sit whatever tank I give her with my tropical fish until I get a house w/o a roommate that would flip over the number of tanks I have.

I already have a 24in hood, so I was looking into my cheapest route that would work.
Im assuming a 20gal would work for the 2nd group of fish?

There are two types of 20 tanks, a 20 long and a 20 high. The 20 high is 24 inches wide, the 20 long is 30. There is a 24 inch wide 25g tank too, but I do not see these around often.

The second fish combo would work in the 20.

Actually, there's a third somewhat-commonly-available All-Glass tank, too: a 20G Extra-High. I think it takes a 20-inch (10Gallon) hood and is about 24 inches high.

I always advise against goldfish in small tanks (anything under 55), as they are major waste producers and can grow quite large, though their growth is always restricted by the tank they're in.

I'd say go with tetras, rasboras. HATL tetras (Head and Tail Light) are very hardy, Rasboras are moderately so.

Yah, I would rather keep my goldies in the 29 gal cuz they produce so much waste. I just wanted to see which was the better combination.

Oh, that extra high tank sounds neat.. I must look into that!

Most fish require horizontal (long) space rather than vertical (high) space, FYI. I have 3 Oranda in a 29g and they're quite happy and strangely enough do not seem to produce a lot of waste at all. I gravel vac and water change 30% every week.

awww those are adorable! My fancy goldie is my Avatar.

I don't think I could use the extra high one, because the hood I have already might be too big.

Pretty soon they will be turning 55g tanks on their side and selling the 55g really-freaking-super-high tank :)

And stop posting that pic Sati, you keep making me look for a spot for a 3rd tank...
