Yes, treating fish today is not like the old days where more often than not, one size fit all. Today, with farms doing too much medicating, hybridizing fish, creating new fish and disease resistant strains and creating new viruses, it's like the wild West when it comes to medicating. The best you can do is try what used to work and work from there. Also, many medications are dependent on water quality and water parameters ( i.e. pH and Hardness). So needless to say, medicating fish is not easy anymore.
