46 gal bow-front, stand, light...$199.74

It's just a standard light, I believe the tank itself was acrylic...saw it at my local wal-mart tonight. Might ask santa for it if it's worth it.

here is something for you to compare with:

i recently bought my All-Glass 72 gal bowfront with stand, hood, light for 500 + tax
I thought my deal was decent.

Sorry couldn't help u much as i'm a newbie myself too but HTH.

I was trying to find one, it's a good deal. I paid 299.99 for a 26 gal bow front, hood, light, filter, heater.

Acrylic is great because it is lightweight, mainly. Also you don't have the seams that break up the view. The problem is that it scratches, and though there are kits to repair scratches in it, I don't know if they work. Fish with rasping type teeth like plecos will scratch acrylic (speaking from experience!). It is a matter of personal choice, and if you can get a good deal on it then go for it. I think that price you mention is pretty average, at least around here, so certainly not a rip-off.

I paid $100 for a glass 44-gal with a solid pine All-Glass stand and a glass canopy top. It was used, but you would never tell by looking at it. I still had to purchase lights, filter, gravel, etc.

wow, nice find tankgirl.
44 gal with all of that for 100 is certainly a nice find! :)

Acrylic is fine, you need a different "algee scraper" the white one I think, and like someone else said "Fish with rasping type teeth like plecos will scratch acrylic". But I really love mine. Talked my wife into finding that 46 gal bowfront at Wal mart and selling the 30 gal (yea right) sw I just set up.

Well, I went back to Wal-Mart today to look at it again. It's glass, which is better I think. Went to all the other lfs in the area and no one even comes close to that value  . I think I might ask Santa for it for christmas.

I'm in the process of setting up my 20 gal long right now. Don't know what I'm going to put in it yet. Maybe Puffers...Maybe Elephant Nose...Maybe Cichilds...have no idea. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear em.

I wished Wal mart around here had this. , you want to see what shipping charges would be to Tennessee?

LOL..normally around here Wal-Mart gets these tanks in around christmas time. I had a nice one on lay-away a few years ago, but then I ended up moving away, so I cancelled the lay-away and missed out on what was a good deal then. The more I sit here and think about it, the more I want the tank. Why Can't I Just Win The Lotto??!! :? But yeah, if you want to see about shipping charges, feel free. LOL

My problem is I can't get the upc code or the "stock number". these idiots at wal mart around here act like "if I don't have it it don't exist.

Well, if ya want, I can run over there tomorrow and write it down for ya. But you better not steal mine...lol...it's the only one they have. I might tell "santa" to get it for me tomorrow. 8)

freshwatergal,

If what you have seen is the black bow front with the black iron stand, then yes it is a good price. They messed up and told me it had filter and heater so when I got there and it didn't I made a little fuss and got them to knock 20 bux off the deal so I got mine for 186.44 +tax, and the fish manager gave me a little 50 watt heater to go with it.

WOOHOO!! Santa came early to my home. I got my 46 gal today. I thought I would get that set up tonight, maybe switch the fish over...I thought if I took the water and stones and such from the old tank and put them in the new tank I really wouldn't be hurting the cycling process. What does anyone think?

That's what I did. Glad you were able to get it. it's a cool tank, I'll get some pictures once it is setup.

Do you think that would stress them out too much...if I switched them over tonight...wouldn't it almost be like doing a water change? :?:

I really want acrylic, personally. They're more clear for viewing fish. They carry a lifetime guarantee. If you need to drill a tank, acrylic is the way to go. If I get a really large tank then I definitely want to go with acrylic. I am worried about glass seems breaking out.

Sati, but at the same time acrylic tanks have a tendency to bow out. Especially the large ones. IMHO i had rather have the glass. The problem with drilling of course is always there - if u wanted to hook it all up to something, glass is not your friend.
