Is it possible for fish to eat themselves sick? Tonight I tried Nutrafin Max pellets - the kind that you stick to the glass and they can swim up to. They seemed ok, until I checked back on them a couple hours later. At least three platies have distended bellies, and I think 1 guppy too. One of the big-bellied platies is hiding now - she never does this.

I did a water change this afternoon, and just did another one now to scoop out any extra food, and all the new gigantic poop that is everywhere. Any ideas?

Man how big must a platies belly be to be considered big. Those are fat little fish. Give them a day with no food and they should recover fine.

You've done everything you needed to do Platylady. Removed any extra food; not much else you can do LOL Obviously the new Nutrafin pellets went over well ;)

They should be fine; I do agree with tkos tho. Give em a fast day.

PlatyLady, how do these pellets stick to the glass? I haven't heard of these and I'm wondering if my platies and mollies would be into them. Always looking for interesting new food for these little piggies of mine!

Whew, everyone's looking a lot better now. They looked normal before I fed them, and then after feeding, it looked like two of them were preggers and ready to burst! A gigantic difference!

Myriam, they are called Nutrafin Max Freeze Dried Tablets for tropical fish. They look sort of like those cheap sour candies we used to get for Hallowe'en. One side is a little concave, the other is flat. You press the flat side to the glass and it sticks. I first saw them in a LFS a year ago, and those fish seemed to like it.

Of course, there were at least 25-30 fish in those tanks. There are 12 in mine and they were fed in the morning! Should've done the math...
