Guppies questions.

I would like to ask whether why guppies die off so easily? They seems to lost their colour very fast and die off easily, especially male ones, females are more hardy, what do they require in an aquarium? Fresh water salt? Or black water solution? There must be something lacking in my aquarium, is there any good websites or is there any guppies expert out there who can describe some ways to keep a guppy healthy?

A lot of guppies have been over-cross-bred (If that is a real word). Someone gets two, then breeds their fry, who all have similar genes. This gets multiplied over and over and pretty soon, the fish are like a backwoods hillbilly family.

But, it is possible to keep healthy, colorful guppies. I remember hearing about guppies losing their color. I thought it was due to water quality, but maybe it was something else.
What kind of filter and tank (and other inhabitants) do you have? What can you tell us about the water (Ph, temp, hardness, ?%change)? Lastly, has the tank been cycled?
