IMG_20251217_131746566~2.jpgWhat are white spots appearing IMG_20251217_131746566~2.jpgon wood and glass in freshwater tank. 1-2mm size. Like little barnacles. Difficult to scrape off. No new plants or items in two years. IMG_20251217_131901410~2.jpgHow to get rid of?

Nerite snail eggs. They won't hatch in freshwater, but nerites still lay them.

They are a pain to get off driftwood. A dental scalpel works, but its time consuming. If your water is acidic they might disolve over time (months/ years). Either learn to live with them, get used to spending hours picking them off one by one, or get rid of the nerites.

Thank you. I have had one nerite snail for @ 3 years and the eggs only started appearing a few months ago. I had no idea! Never thought of unfertilized eggs ..

It must have just reached serial maturity, or maybe an environmental condition changed prompting egg laying. 3 years is a bit long, but it is what it is.

At least you know you have a girl, they are a species that arent hermaphrodites and doesn't change sex. And if you really dont like the eggs, only having one means you can easily remove her.
