Hello thanks for stopping to read my post!

I managed to rescue this lovely jewel cichlid off a friend this weekend because he always looked depressed in his tank, but unfortunately i did not notice if the lump was there until i got him into my tank.

Im fairly new to fish keeping and try to take good care of my fish so i have not experienced something like this before so hopefully someone has had a similar experience.

I will post more pictures, sorry they are not great my camera is rubbish and hes camera shy 🤣 the lump is only on one side and in the couple of days i have had him i would say it has slightly enlarged.

Hes eating well and always active, i noticed it soon as i put him in my tank so not been attacked by tankmates (rainbow shark, tiger barbs, yoyos) who are a 5th his size and terrified lol.

Yesterday i started dosing the tank with melafix, primafix and aquarium salt as a start, Any more advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I can't tell for sure based on your pics but most likely it's a gill fluke ( parasite) and what you used will do nothing for this. You need to use a medication with Praziquantel in it. If you can get Prazi-pro or Fritz Prazicleanse, these contain Praziquantel. If you can't get any meds over there containing Praziquantel, a treatment of Potassium Permanganate OR Formalin will also help but these are much rougher on the fish and tank and need to be done extremely carefully.

Hope this helps. (y)

Waterlife Flukefree has praziquantel as the active ingredient and is available in the UK (hsmpshire from your bio info). Waterlife did cease trading a few months ago, but I'm still seeing their products on the shelf. Check the expiry date.

Esha gdex which also has praziquentel as the active ingredient. I prefer waterlife products, but the choice of medication here is going to be more limited from now on.

Thank you both for your fast response and advice, i have just ordered some fluke solve aquarium because i can get it delivered tomorrow on Amazon but i have also looked and waterlife flukefree is readily available here so i will order that which will take a few days to deliver.

Thank you so much 😊
