My betta "Ibster" has been living in a little betta bowl for awhile now. He and I are sick of it.

Ive setup a 25 gallon tank, added all new gravel, new fake plant, chunk of wood from an old tank, (all rinsed and cleaned before adding) and using a brand new Fluval 3plus, submersible filter. I just got Ibster 2 days ago, (from some guy who ridiculously named him "blue", no offence of course), but i did a little water change of his little bowl and added the little bit of old water to the new tank which is filled mostly with tap water, used cylcle to hopefully speed along the cycle process and aquaplus to remove clorine.

and i wait....

next morning..today...i tested PH and am sitting at a very happy 7.0, temp. of the tank is 75 degrees. Sounds great to me...i would float him in right now, :D but....

Ive been reading about Nitrates - trits, and ammonia, 8O I have never done anything about either of these things before, no testing no adding nothing. Ive had many other tanks before and they have always been fine, and my fishies live and live happily at that. Whats the deal with ammonia and Nitrates?

Waiting for a response before I let Ibster be free in his nice new BIG tank.

:smilecolros: :olympic: WELCOME! :olympic: :smilecolros:
Here is where to find the article on the nitrogen cycle here at AA:

What a good fish mom you are! (or great salesman Ibster is!) to give Ibster a palacial dream and not the run of the mill 10 gallon condo! ^_^

Since at present you will only have one fish in an entire 25 gallons; I will go against my own usual advice and say add away.
Just be sure to bag his old media(gravel) ,if he has it , and any decorations and just add them straight to the tank.

And if the is the typical size home you choose for your lucky friends, it may be why you never noticed any apparent problems..... more water=more forgiving and stable.
BTW: Most products that you add, like cycle, are not really helpful. It cannot be shelf stable(unrefrigerated) for long and still have living nitrosomas or nitrobacter bacteria inside(IF that product ever had it)

:D :D :D Hooray! And 10 Kudos for knowing a betta is a FISH not a frog ^_^

Thanks!

thank you i haveread and i undestand...ill grow now with my new knowledge! Ibster wont be alone very long, i loooooove aquatic frogs, mollies and i like having a pleco. So those will all be additions over time and water changes..

Thanks for welcoming me and for your quick responses.

Going golfing now, have a nice Sunday.

When getting tank mates for a betta, make sure they are not fin nippers (tiger barbs, certain tetras, cichlids, and many more) or long finned fish that the betta would see as a rival (guppies, long finned mollies, angelfish, other bettas). So if your getting a molly then make sure its the short finned variety. And dont buy any pleco labled "common pleco" or just "pleco". These guys quickly grow into 1-2' monsters. Dwarf plecos are a little more expensive but look for bristlenose plecos, candy stripe plecos, or rupperlipped plecos. Do some reasearch before buying any fish, just to be safe.

I don't think "Blue" is a ridiculous name.
My first betta was red. His name was "Red." It was later changed to "Bubbles" because he blew bubbles a lot.

Welcome to AA. :)
