How to anchor driftwood.

I have a beautiful piece of driftwood, and I can't for the life of me get it to sink, and stay put. It's been well soaked, and I tried to anchor in the gravel bed, but it just has to much bouancy, any tricks to get this thing to stay put?

im my 55 gal i gotta pretty bouyant (i love that word) piece of of driftwood and i just make sure its base is well buried in gravel, then throw 2-3 rocks to help secure it down a bit.

you may want to look for a large piece of slate and if it already has a piece of slate then you should slide the new piece on top of the other if not add the new slate to it with a screw

stainless steel screws, masonary bit and a piece of slate (or any other non-reactive rock)

another alternative is a marine epoxy which bonds wood to stone ... I know some of them advertise that ability.

Hehe.. Thats basically what I did glmclell. I had some ceramic tile lying around, so I figured that was safe enough. Took the masonry bit, and some of my frustration and drilled through the sucker then (this part sucked) dug up the substrate and gravel and buried the base of the wood and the tile. It's not going anywhere now. Made a big freaking mess though.

yea - digging into an established gravel bed is always messy

glad to hear that solved your problem!

and ceramic tile is a LOT cheaper than that $10 piece 'o slate at the pet store!
