I got nothing, what would you do

55 gal tank
70 lbs live rock
4 in DSB with 5 lb garf grung on top
garf clean up crew of about 50 snails and crabs etc


I got no pods...or worm trails. Have checked 3 nights in a row now and have not seen one pod of any type. None of the LFS here are very good. They tell me all is well but get that 1000 yard stare when I start to talk about worms and pods. The rock was purchased locally from a guy who tore down his tank. Sand is Southtown with grung on top.

Wondering what you guys think the best thing to do for seeding some pods and stuff. Setup is going on a year old. Coraline is growing good, but have some spots where the edges are turning white. Have some shrooms and polyps but no major corals in the tank yet.

Don't really have the money to invest in more LR and get it shipped and am just looking for a way to seed what I need.

What I would suggest is finding a local Reefer and Asking for a few cup fulls of his/her sand from their Sand Bed.. Many Reefers would not mind.. It should help you out.. Also Liverocks.com Has LiveSand that you can get from them for like 1.25 per pound plus s/h I would recommend getting maybe 10lbs of that and you should be crawling with all sorts of creepy crawly things.. I put 15lbs of their LS in my tank and I see all sorts of worms and stuff all day long.. They are located in FL and since you are in SC S/H might be extremly cheap.. Maybe if its not too far you could drive there and pick some up..

I would say that if there are no pods and worms, and the tank is a year old, what do you have in there that is eating them? With LR and sand, it is almost impossible to be that sterile after a year unless the water parameters are way out of whack.. Please give more information as to what inhabitants you have and what your water parameters are....This will help better to determine what is wrong and why you do not have any pods or worms... However I will have to say that just because you do not see worm trails on the glass, does not mean you don't have worms... There are many many species of worms and beneficial organisms that play a role.. Some smaller than the eye can see...

If you purchased the GARF grunge, I would think there were at least a few pods and worms in it when you got it...

James mentioned a good source of seeding with another reefers sand.. However, as I said before, if the parameters are not right, and the inhabitants are eating them up before time to establish, adding more is not going to be beneficial....
