One of my fish is swimming nose up and tail down. He keeps swimming like that, been that way for a few days. What should I do? Should I put fish to sleep, or is there anything else I can do? I do not have any peas to feed him. I do not know if the fish would eat or not, even if I did have it. Is swim bladder painful to fish? There is something wrong with my fish and I do not know what is the right thing to do, thanks!

Think of the swim bladder as a gas bubble inside yourself. When it's not overfilled, there is no pressure. If it gets overfilled there is pressure. The swim bladder is a bag of air that allows the fish to stay buoyant. If the bladder gets an infection or bursts or deflates, the fish can't swim correctly. There are a number of ways people treat swim bladder conditions but they are extensive and can get costly and don't always work. Considering the fish you have, it will probably be less stressful emotionally and financially on you to euthanize the fish.
That's my 2 cents.

I will euthanize the fish. Thanks for your help. I was thinking I might have to do that, but I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. I will euthanize after this post. I do not want the fish in pain, or stressed out. My other fish are doing fine though.

I do not have anything to put the fish asleep. Can I just put fish in the trash, or do I need to buy some clove oil, or vodka to put to sleep?

I just bought some clove oil, that way if I have to euthanize any more fish, if they are close to death I will have what I need. My other fish are doing fine, right now. Thanks for your help.

Ok will do, but I did buy some clove oil, for future use.

I just euthanized my fish. I am sure he is in fishy heaven, free of swim bladder disease. He was a sick fish. My other fish are fine. I always test my tank water to make sure the Nitrates do not get out of control. I also check for Ammonia. My tank is cycled been so for quite awhile. I still have my pleco, still trying to sell to a good home, with more room to swim. I do not know if he will ever sell. But I am trying to sell him. I only have a 40 gallon tall, which is too small for a pleco. Right now is fine, because fish is still small, and he has room to swim.
