Looking for small middle and top swimmers. I've previously done guppies, tetras, mollies, platys, danios. gouramis, etc. so looking for something different.

Two that have caught my eye are Limia Islai (livebearers) and Clown Killifish
Clown Killies are very tough and not really good fish for community tanks. They are better in species only tanks. The limia are a nice looking fish but I'd be curious if anyone is selling them.
Have you thought about the Rasboras? The lambchop( Trigonostigma espei) is a smaller version of the Harlequin Rasbora so good for a smaller tank as are other microrasbora species. How about Pencilfish or threadfin Rainbowfish ( depending on your water parameters.)? For something a little different, look at Glass Catfish. They are not like your average catfish. 🤔

Sorry to hear that about the Killies. Will need to figure out another top level swimmer. I've had hatchet fish before and am not really fond of them.

Dan's fish has Limia's as well as a place in Colorado. I'll talk to what appears to be the best local independent fish store and see if can get them for me as another option. My water may be too hard for the rasboras. I'm retesting my water tonight. We'll see what it looks like.

It will all depend on whether the rasboras are wild caught or farmed. We got them from the Florida farms and kept them in very hard water with a pH 8.5+ with no issues. I would have had to alter the water had they been wild caught.
