I have a 65 gallon breeder tank with under gravel filter run by Aqua clear powerheads. The power head design has been changed from the suction cup design to an over the rim hanger. The two problems are (a) the power head won't reach the top of the lift tubes from those hangers because of the tank's height (b) my tank has a rim on the inside of the top of the tank to hold the glass covers. Any ideas or recommendations?

First option is to replace the lift tubes with longer tubes. You can cut them to size to make them fit perfectly. Next is, most rims are plastic so they can be trimmed so you will either need to cut out a section of the inner lip or use a file or dremel tool to sand down that inner lip so the hanger fits. If you are using one, you may need to have your glass lid trimmed to accommodate the space the hanger now takes up.
If neither of these are possible, I suggest going back to the suction cup setup for the power heads.
