The tank would have to be in the 30-40 gal range.

Thinking planted with hardy plants (since larger fish...namely cichlids...tend to be diggers, more roudy let's say) Suggest hardy plants for the tank? (with moderate lighting, say)

Rocks/driftwood to be included

Suggest substrate?

pH/params will be kept around the same as my other tank...around neutral

Run DIY CO2?

Now that the setup is mentioned, I would like fish suggestions. Besides discus and angels, suggest possibilities for large fish (say, in the 8-10 inch range) that could be kept in this tank? Not being specific, cichlids, or any other fish that would fit into this setup well that grows large ... with numbers of fish plz!
And perhaps other possible tankmates ("cleanup" or scavenger fish) suggestions?

Thanks! :)

I think I've tentatively decided on a Gold Severum, and a 30 gal tank.

How do you suggest I setup the tank (plants, rocks, driftwood) ?

Tankmates?

Try tying some annubias nana, and java fern to the driftwood. Makes for a great looking tank. :) . I think there's a pic in my gallery.

Just off the record :)
What do you guys think of this setup?

30-35 gal
1 Gold Severum
3 Silver Dollars
Scavenger/Algae-eating/"Cleanup" fish suggestions?
Emperor Power Filter
Sand substrate
Lots of driftwood with attached java moss and anub. nana, plus rocks
Floating hornwort
DIY CO2

i thought silver dollars were plant eaters... but some one probably has more experience on this than i...

Yes they are, and I've realized that setup is rather overstocked and probably would not work well for my tank

Here is the setup then I am leaning towards:
30-35 gal
1 Gold Severum
Another med-large-ish fish addition maybe?
2 Spotted Raphael Cats
Emperor Power Filter
Sand substrate
Lots of driftwood with attached java fern and anub. nana, plus rocks
Floating hornwort
DIY CO2

Along with my stocking question, sound good? :)

Just to be safe, I think I'm gonna push for a tank in the 50-55 gal range

I think I'm gonna try to model this tank like this one

:D

I really like Jack Dempseys, Uaru and Severums....in the style of the aquarium on that link, what combos of each of those could I keep in a 50-55 gal? (I do not wish to breed either fish)

Hi Anthoeny, The fish in the pic you've linked is a managuense cichlid. Definitely not malawi. I've always like big South American and Central American fish. Some are decidedly more aggressive than others. Severums are on the docile side compared to say a jack dempsey. :)

Yep, the fish in the link is certainly a Jaguar cichlid :)

Beautiful tank, hey? :)
I've tentatively decided to set my tank up to model the one in the link, and stock One (1) Black Belt Cichlid (Cichlasoma maculicauda) in it :D

What do you think?
