This is a picture of one of my fish. He recently developed these bulbus red lips. He’s the only one in the 37 gallon tank that has this issue. I have 10 other fish in the tank. He eats regularly and swims around normally. My family thinks I should flush him, but I don’t have the heart to do so. Any suggestions?

She appears to have a ripped lip. It's not swollen, it's missing. It may have happened by scraping the rocks for the algae on it or had a fight with another fish in the tank. If she's still eating, there's a chance of her growing it back. For her own safety, she needs to be put into a separate hospital tank with aquarium salt at a rate of 1 tablespoon per 3 actual gallons of water. As long as the mouth does not get white fuzzy on it, there is no need to use any stronger meds. Once the mouth stops showing the red, she can be placed into either a quarantine tank or I'd get a divider for the main tank if a separate quarantine tank is not available. The healing time is not going to be quick so there needs to be a safe place for her to recoup.

If you need assistance setting up the hospital tank, I've explained the 2 tanks in this thread: Quarantine tanks and Hospital tanks, are they really different?

Hope this helps (y)
