Just recently got a night goby for my 10 gallon brackish. There were 2 medium size juvenile males, and 2 adult males. Before purchasing this fish, I did a lot of research and it all stated that they were territorial, but a good community tank mate - guppys/livebearers included. Well, a few days have gone by and now there is the night goby (aka fantail goby) and the 2 adults. The juveniles have mysteriously dissapeared, and Lancelot (the Goby) has a content look on his face and a big belly. Hm....

Am I not feeding him enough? I am currently feeding him mostly flake food, mixing in some brine shrimp or bloodworms. Anyone have any experience with these guys? Any suggestions on foods or what else I can do? Thanks

Very cool fish.

Unfortunately my brackish knowledge is pretty limited. Throw a post over at www.wetwebmedia.com on their forum. Ananda over there is THE brackish guru and may be able to give you some definite info.

Terry....I can't seem to open the link. It looks like it would be a good link thoughm lol. Is it supposed to be .net? Thank you guys for your support!

Thanks Terry!

Ok, here is an update. I didn't want to have to do this, but I went and spoke to a guy at a lfs by me...I went to one of the small family business ones, not a petsmart or other chain. One of the guys had some knowledge about knight gobys. We came up with the idea of getting some feeder guppys. We have them acclimating in a bag in the tank right now. If this works, we will start breeding our guppys and using the fry as food. I figure it's a lot better than buying guppys from the store and having him eat them, cause eventually he will probably get a disease, plus it's a lot easier than having to give the fry to a lfs only to have them mistreated and suffer.

Any thoughts or ideas about this? Good or bad, please feel free to speak your mind. Thanks!

Hrmm. If your going to use them as feeders, I would do preventative treatment (I don't normally suggest this, but it would suck to have both the guppies AND the goby get ill). I'd give the guppies a 2-3 week QT to be sure they're healthy as well.

Are you going to let the adult feeder guppies just do their thing in the goby's tank, or are you going to breed them in a separate tank and then move them over to be lunch when they get to be the right size?

I think it is smart to breed them yourself to cut down on the possibility of disease, I just wonder how big the goby's appetite is. Will he eat the fry faster or as fast as the guppies make them? If you had the fry in a separate breeding tank, you could space his feedings out a little - if it matters.
