Wow, that's a lot of typing. Let's see, I'll start with the easiest -
sps.
Start with a healthy, established mother colony. Break a piece of the coral off with a pair of clean wire snips (don't use your fingers - the oils on your flesh irritate the coral).
Put the
frag in a separate container of tank water (be sure to change out water regularly to maintain temp), for about an hour. This gives the coral a chance to expel any mucuous/slime outside of the display.
Attach to a small piece of base rock, or coral plug. One *trick* that most ppl don't do is this -- attach to coral with the healthy tissue down. Damaged tissue should face upwards to receive the best light/current for healing. I use superglue gel (cyanoacrylate gel) for all my
sps frags.
Some things I think are important --
Keep handling time to a bare minimum. Aklways try not to touch the coral with your bare hands.
Place
frags in the same or slightly lower light than the mother colony, never higher.
Do not move
frags around frequently. Every time you move a
frag, it expends energy (and as such, weakens the coral) by the need to acclimate itself to new lighting, water flow, etc.
Okay, that's
sps ...
More another time.
